“PERFECT! All hotels should follow the lead of the Hotel Madison...”
Reviewed August 27, 2010

My husband and I (along with our 10 year old) spent 9 nights at the Hotel Madison. We were in Hamburg visiting family and friends. We booked the Madison based on it's reviews on TripAdvisor as well as it's excellent location and we were not in the least disappointed.

This is one classy and sophisticated hotel, but more importantly it is friendly, cheerful, practical and well appointed. The rooms are how every hotel room should be. They are modern but welcoming and unpretentious. We stayed in a studio suite that had a small balcony and a very handy kitchenette. Our room was very spacious with comfortable beds and luxurious bedding. The bathroom was enormous and immaculate. But what impressed us the most was the amount of storage...there was a place to store EVERYTHING!

The staff both at the front desk and in the restaurant were very friendly and helpful. The buffet breakfast in the hotel restaurant is well worth the price...there is so much food to chose from and it's delicious! There is also a fitness and wellness spa located next to the hotel with a swimming pool that can be used for a fee.

The hotel location is fabulous. It is just a block from the Baumwall U-bahn station. It is about a 15-20 minute walk to Mockenbergstrasse and Jungfernsteig (the main shopping areas) and only a five minute walk to the harbour where there are numerous harbour. St Michaelis Church is also about a five minute walk away and it is well worth the visit and the climb to the top...the views are outstanding! The Portuguese and Spanish area is about 2 blocks away and is packed with lively restaurants and cafes and the food is fabulous....we highly recommend D. Jose...they have a fantastic menu (and a kids menu as well).

The Hotel Madison is our home is Hamburg...

Went to Hamburg for a city trip and visiting friends beginning of December! Madison Hotel is a perfect place to stay: well equipped, super service, very good breakfast and very, very big rooms plus big bath room...! The environment is very nice and close to everything... Just 2 stops to city centre and 4 stops to the main station. You can also walk to the city easily. Just in front of the hotel is the harbour, close to Landungsbrücken. And next to the hotel is Gruner&Jahr (front of Gala-editorial office is the next door when you walk to "Michel"). From the top of the "Michel" you have a perfect view of Hamburg - in any direction! In my case it was pretty cold on the top, but the view is really recommendable!
The only little point of criticsm for Madison Hotel is that you have no free internet or WLAN which I expect nowadays, esp. in business hotels. Even if no WLAN in any room, it should be possible to offer a freespot in the lobby. But that is no real big matter.
And last, but not least, not to forget to mention that there is a wellness area in the same building which I had no chance to use. Recommended places: beside the well-known, I loved Kunsthalle and Galerie der Gegenwart, Deutsches Schauspielhaus, Thalia Theater....
Hamburg is a beautiful city - a lot to discover! Will go back for a visit soon!

I've stayed over two weeks at the Madison on business and I'd certainly go back. The staff are charming and efficient, the rooms are well proportioned, the bathrooms work well, the internet connection is fast (but not free). Most importantly, for me, there's an enormous gym attached the hotel. I believe there is also a pool. Another great plus is that if you give the reception a shopping list they will fill the fridge and cupboards of your kitchenette with whatever you desire.
The hotel has just one flaw (mentioned already in other reviews): no room service. There is a decent (if not overwhelming) restaurant which will happily make food for you, but you have to go down and pick it up yourself. This sounds minor, but it's made me realize how my first act on getting back to a hotel room seems to be to take off my shoes and some of my clothes, and having to put it all back on again to get some room service seems an unnecessary inconvenience, and an eccentric decision given how good the rest of the service is.

My purpose for staying here is its location adjacent to the company I meet with in Hamburg. Located in a quiet area near St. Michael’s church the hotel is modern and comfortable. Mostly a business clientele but there are tourists as well. Have stayed here about five times over the course of 10 years, the quality is good and it has remained consistent. The staff is attentive and helpful. The hotel breakfast buffet is very nice, with good service and a polite staff. A health club is located on the property that guests can use in the early AM for free, or it is a good base for a morning run along the river. The river walk is nearby and there lots of good restaurants within a short distance. Not a shopping area, but it is only a 15 to 20 minute walk to the main shopping district.

We had an excellent stay at the Madison Hotel Hamburg. The room was lovely, the reception was stylish and the staff were extremely helpful (all of them, every time).

The hotel's location is perfect. It is a five minute walk from the boardwalk where we caught a city tour. It is a 15 minute (beautiful) walk from the central shopping area and the Binnenalster. It is well connected to everything through public transport.

Nothing bad to say except that the breakfast was a bit too expensive, but we misheard the price when we sat down so it's not their fault.

A very pleasant stay.

my father and I stayed in this hotel from 17 Agugust till 21 August, it's amazing hotel very nice stuff and helpful, the room very big and there's minibar for making tea coffee and hot chcolate, I'm glad to stay in that hotel, also there's train staion near of hotel U3 (Bamwal) it's three stops from Rathus the atractive area and five stops from city center (main train staion).
Only I had problem it's they don't have room service, if you want any food or any thing else you have to go down to pick it it up to you room, some times I've to back from city center just to pick my father's food up to his room, because he is old.
finaly if I'm going to Hamburg next time alone I'll go this hotel but if I'm with my dad I can't stay there.
Thank you..
Tefu

Just to follow-up on others: modern, clean, spacious rooms. Reasonably central with very friendly reception girls. Can't fault it really: clearly good value for money, incl for families. Like one of the better Citadines. Recommended - if you are OK with nudist bathing in the spa visible from your room.

  • Liked — Space !
  • Disliked — Not as central as others but only short walk really
