“Great location, friendly staff”
Reviewed September 8, 2011

Nice hotel. Good value. Great location near the main train station. Nice staff, but not too knowledgeable - how could the front desk attendant not know anything about renting small boats to go on the two main lakes in Hamburg? The rooms were good given the price with pillows that were very comfortable. Good breakfast. Only negative is that because the hotel is near the main train station, you have a reasonable assortment of drug addicts and other homeless people that hang around outside the hotel.

The "standard double" room was so small that we could hardly fit in our suitcases! One could barely walk around the room without bumping into either the bed, or the chair. It was very noisy at nights! We got all - from drunken serenades to drunken fights. The reception and breakfast personnel were not the friendliest I have ever encountered (and we spend 2/3 of the year in hotels!). The only 'plus' was that the room was clean.

I stayed in this hotel in June for 6 nights in a single room the size of a shoe box for and average 139 Eu a night which was extortion. Because 1 night coincided with a public holiday I was charged 209 Eu for that night. The only good things about it - the location near the station and the St Georg area. The room was so small I could only just get between the bed and the desk. It was dreary, not even a picture on the wall. The last day my room wasn't cleaned. The bathroom was minute. I stayed in 6 hotels in Germany and this was the most expensive and the worst room by a huge margin. I could not recommend it.

We used this hotel purely as a stop over en route to Copenhagen. We chose it because it is opposite the train station. We had a triple room so it was a decent size. the bathroom was clean and modern and surprisingly our room was very quiet. We arrived in the evening and found the area to be non threatening when walking to the hotel and finding a restaurant later on.

Stayed here for a weekend in January, I chose this hotel based on tripadvisor. Not sure where the good reviews come from (probably hotel staff), I have never stayed at such a poor hotel. The customer service is shocking, Frau Keilling tried to overcharge us by 30 euro, when we pointed out we had not been given the room that we request she simply stared at us and without letting us know charged the original card that had been used for the booking then informed us we wouldn't have to pay because she'd taken the money already so we were wasting our time arguing!!! The beds were essentially camping beds, not what you'd expect at this price. Breakfast ok - the only (minor) highlight...

Measured in cubic feet of airspace, the room we had for one night here was spacious. A high-ceiling room, to be sure, but in terms of actual, usable space, we got a room that was comically, absurdly small. You might as well have put four walls up against a bed, with a door in one wall through which you could leap and land on said bed.

There was practically no walking space. With two people, you had to choreograph your moves so you didn't fall over each other.

That said, this was only one room we saw; I'm sure others must have more space.

The Graf Moltke is an acceptable choice for a budget-conscious traveler who wants to be near the Central Railway Station. The staff were helpful and courteous. One big minus during out stay was that the elevator was broken, so you had to haul your bags up the stairs, but they had folks ready to help.

The bathroom was tiny but adequate. The breakfast was quite good and varied, perhaps a standout feature of this hotel.

While centrally located, it is in a bit of dodgy area, with streetwalkers plying their trade nearby. A better alternative, perhaps, is their sister hotel, the Eleazar, located a block or two away. We stayed there, and all was comparable except we had a much larger room, meaning the usual small, European plan room.

breakfast was ok, staff were helpful, BUT upon arriving they offered me two roms to choose from, one was at the very back and was too small and dark for a triple room and another facing the front area of the hotel in a perfect size which obviosly i chose, but i had to pay another 30 euros. When i booked the hotel few weeks before in the pictures were only the nice ones so i think that was not fair.
