Perfect location, around the corner from the Town Hall and many shops. Historic building from the 1920s in Hamburg, modern reception and cozy common spaces but our family room looked a bit tired. Recommended base for exploring Hamburg, which is a great city, but more could be on offer for the price. Helpful and friendly staff.

I've stayed at quite a few Marriott and Renaissance brand hotels, all over the world. So I was expecting mid to below average hotel, as before. Pleasant surprise!

To start with, the check experience was wonderful - the staff here are incredibly friendly and helpful. One woman even pulled out a map and showed me my location (without me asking) and told me a few fun things happening in the city that week. Big smiles and hellos, from everyone from the bell boys to the restaurant staff, all the time.

Rooms are large and well equipped. Curtains black out all light and it's very quiet. Beds are comfortable as can be. My one compliant on the whole thing was the charge for internet - 12.50 Euro per day. I just hate when hotels do this - would prefer they just added to the price rather than me having to go though the pay by credit card experience every 24 hours.

Otherwise, good stuff.

Staying in my former hometown Hamburg made my choice a bit easyer as I know the surrounding from earlier visits. Very good hotel with a most interesting history. Excellent service. Life music in the bar in the evening very refreshing on a warm day, did not disturbe in the room above.
Approach to the hotel by car can be difficultt as the small alley in front offers not much space for parking and unloading. But it works with friendly help of the staff.

Great location, modern lobby.

Rooms are however in desperate need of an upgrade. CRTs are unacceptable for this level of hotel, and some of the drawers didn't close right due to a botched repair. Once outside of the lobby, the hotel is old fashioned, and the corridor smelt stale.

No lounge for platinum members. Breakfast was average and we decided not to use it on our second day. If it is not included in the rate much better value is available outside the hotel (try Cafe Paris - a ten minute walk away).

We chose the hotel for the location and it certainly was an excellent choice. Awesome location, stylish hotel (but not too elaborate), great service and a room with everything we needed. I was initially concerned about the size of the room and bathroom from the trip advisor user photos, but found they were perfect. We were happy to disover that the desk had power converters on hand. Room service and food was very good although they put ketchup on the turkey sandwhich...maybe because we are Americans. The staff spoke perfect English which was helpful although I speak German. Things we learned: You can refill your water bottle in the excercise room on the 6th floor, the largest electronics store in Hamurg is Saturn, user friendly biking city and biking is a must, the StadRad bikes are awesome anbd worth the time to figure out (perserverance pays off), the Meatery was an awesome steak house, house wine in the hotel is good, cute diverse neighborhoods all around the Renaissance...excellent trip. Off to Timmendorfer Strand for Part 2.
