Sorry, but Jim Block's hamburger just doesn't match the experience of the Block House burger next door. The meat was not as flavorful as at the Block House next door, nor was the cole slaw the same as next door: the dressing was different, and the cut was not as fine.
The comparison could not be avoided because we couldn't get a table at the Block House next door, and our friend said Jim Block's place would be the same. Sorry, it just wasn't.

Our family went to Jim Block's late on a Friday evening. It was still busy, but not crowded. We went through the line and were seated with 15 minutes (this was at 9:00 or so). We ordered the Smokey BBQ burgers. No, they were not exactly like what you would have in the U.S., but they were excellent burgers. The ingredients were fresh and the burgers were made on order, not re-heated. I would compare them a bit to Fuddrucker's - the bun was more like a Kaiser roll (only the Smokey BBQ came on them, all other burgers were served on sesame buns) and had a unique remoulade-type sauce that was actually very good. The bacon was also thick and the veggies were bright and fresh. In Europe, where it is often difficult to find a restaurant still serving at late hours, we were very pleased to find a nice, clean restaurant in a lively part of the city with great tasting food.

Extremely crowded (noisy, long lines) with mostly young people seeking an American hamburger. But, what do Hamburgers know? Superficial resemblance to US fast food burger, but the bottom line is wait until you get home, Americans, for a better burger (unless you want to brag that you ate a hamburger in Hamburg).

This is Block House food for Take Away. The qualtiy of the food is just as good as in the Block House Restaurant, which is located upstairs. It is very crowded during the lunch hours, so it is best to come early or later. They serve good salads and different kinds of burgers. All of them are delicious. My personal favorite is the Mushroom burger! But I can also recomend the cesars salad with chicken. Location right at the Jungfernstieg is of course also faboulus!

in my opinion the best burger place in hamburg. they have a few other restaurants in barmbek, othmarschen and so on. since i ate the first time there i'm not going to mcdonalds or burgerking anymore. the prices are more or less the same with the difference that at jim block they make everything fresh and you can watch them making your burger.
