We visited the Dungeon in Hamburg because we really appreciated the London Dungeon. Although it´s not at as high a level as the London version, it is still very funny and informative (if you understand german or english respectively).
It was very hot outside, so the interiors understandably were just as hot. There was basically no line, when we got there, but we still bought the jump-the-line-tix beforehand - which I would recommend for almost every attraction yoou plan to visit.

Thank Eric J

Over priced and disappointing. I've been to many dungeon experiences all over the world and this was not what we had expected. For a hour and a half we were stood watching re-enactments in german and not speaking the language had no idea what was being said. Not recommended for any one who cant be stood for a long period of time and its also very hot and stuffy. You don't get to see much of the place as your shunted through to the next room like cattle. If i wanted to see a stage production i would of gone to the theatre. The boat ride is rubbish and only lasts for a couple of minutes.

It is fun to visit the dungeon that showcases the historical moments of Hamburg City (the great fire, the plague epidemic, the pirates hijacking the Hamburg ships etc.)some in a light manner and some in a horrifying, grotesque light. The perfectly synchronised tour begins with your “horrifying”photo session after entry (photos available for purchase at the end of tour ). All the sections of the 90 minute tour are well co-ordinated with the artists dressed appropriately and with proper make up and hair do, appearing intimidating/ terrifying and having a lively interaction with the touring group. The high point of the tour is the night ride in the boats travelling through dense vegetations with many shrills and cries emanating from the surroundings and the “indescribable” seen . There is this free fall at the end of the tour where you when strapped on to a chair are subjected to a sudden descent from a height with your varied facial expressions (fear ,surprise ,anxiety) captured on screen.
It is a place to be experienced rather than described.
Book a English tour ( Fri, Sat, Sun 10 am only) and book online as that works out cheaper.
There is a range of dungeon memorabilia available at the shop as the tour comes to an end.
Deserves a visit!!

Speaking some German it was hard for me to understand everything. I was nervous I was going to be called out for crowd participation! If I knew more German it would have been better!

As my title states, tour this attraction in your native language only. I went into this attraction imagining it would be similar to an American Haunted House and I was completely wrong. It is more a series of scenes or rooms as opposed to a full blown walking Haunted House where scares come at every turn. The scenes are pretty easy to understand and figure out in a foreign language, but seeing it in English would have made it that much more enjoyable as there are cast members telling stories during each scene. Also be prepared to take part in each scene as they always pick volunteers for each room/scene. Finally the two rides at the end of the tour are brief, but enjoyable experiences.
