The HI Express St Pauli seems to be in a little pocket of budget hotels as the Ibis and the Etap are directly across the road.
As previous reviews have stated, it is a short walk to St Pauli station for the Ubahn or to the Sbahn station on Reeperbhan where you can take the S1 directly to or from the airport.
At various times of year there is a huge fairground/funpark across the road as well which would be great for kids ( and adults who are young at heart with iron stomachs).
We only stayed the one night so the room and hotel met our needs perfectly. The room was small but had everything we needed including tea & coffee facilities and TV with a few English channels. The bed and bathroom were fine, everything is very clean.
Breakfast was a continental buffet and there was plenty to go around - tea, coffee, juice, cereals, yoghurt, fruit, cheese, cold cuts, bread & boiled eggs.
There is a vending machine near the lifts at reception and one computer available to guests at a charge. Parking is available at a charge, I think we paid €20.
It is very walkable from here to the centre as well if you're fit and able. It would only take 10mins to walk to St Michaelis Church...you can spot the spire from outside the hotel.
This hotel is a great budget option.More
