Well, it's not exactly at the harbour, but Hamburg port takes 25% of the city space, which make it almost ubiquitous.

Das weisse Haus (The white house) is a calm, small and charming restaurant. Tables are inside or outside, but we (family) sat outside because it was a beautiful day in northern Europe summer.

We ordered seafood, obviously (by the way, that's the forte of the house), and they came beautifully arranged and delicious.

Price was fair, but not inexpensive, although worthwhile. Location is excellent but accessible by car or taxi, preferrably.

Nice atmosphere, especially in front room (and outside I would imagine in warmer weather). Great service which included translating the menu, as I don't know German. It saved me looking up everything in my book. Had 4 courses: tuna tartare, scallops, pike, and chocolate cake for dessert. Food was delicious, with nice depth of flavors. Suggested German white wine was fantastic. Wasn't uncomfortable for a solo diner, which is not always the case.

The moment we went into the restaurant, you get a warm feeling, like being welcomed into somebody's home. It had a very laid back atmosphere.

The menu is, however, limited so you only had a few things to choose from, which is a pity, since you won't return that often. You can go for a 2-course (€30), 3-course (€36), 4-course (€46) or even 5-course (€58)-menu. We were recommended for an aperiftif, which was delicious!

We went for a 2-course-menu with a main course and dessert. The main dish was good (seabream with wok vegetables), but not blowing away our minds. Somehow we had higher expectations, given that the cook is quite known. The desserts were more special - pear tarte tatin with brittle ice cream and chocolate cake with melting core. However, a bit overpriced for a 2-course meal.

The area (Elbstrand/Övelgönne) is nice, especially in the summer - big villas, beach and view over the Elbe. So try to combine that with an evening stroll! Else there is nothing much out there. Recommended for a family dinner! The tables are quite close to each other, so that you can eavesdrop on the neighbour's conversation, therefore not recommendable for a (first) date or business dinner.

The location is small and cozy, food is outstanding and so is the service.

Decent wine selection and you can
combine your own menu from several changing dishes.

It is relatively pricey though, we paid 130 eur incl. tip and drinks for a 2-person, 2-course menu.

Still, definitely a reco!

Quaint cozy restaurant with inside/outside dining on the banks of the Elbe. Our host and proprietor, Christian Senkel became our menu, as everything was in German (website included). He succeeded in every aspect, to the point where I suggested (a rarity indeed) to choose our wine pairings as we were having fish, lamb and beef at the table. I had the mackeral appetizer, followed by a foie gras second course and then a pickerel of some variety. All were delicious as was a cheese plate to finish the evening off (as I watched my colleagues indulge in deliciously decadent chocolate souffles). Christian chose a Tschida desert wine from Austria that was a superb match for my cheese. IN the cab on the way back to the hotel, our cab driver enlightened us to the fact that (no surprise) the proprietor is a well known chef on German TV. Went to two other fine dining restaurants in Hamburg, this was the best.
