This hotel is located just by the lake (Templiner see). The view from the window to the lake is awesome. It is nice to walk around this hotel property, along the lake shore. In Fall, the surrounding is perfect for jogging, especially when you are tired after attending meetings/seminars. Its location is far from the center of Potsdam. This hotel is good for conferences or meetings, but not quite right for family.
The breakfast is excellent in this hotel. The bed room is simple but nice and clean. The drawback is no free wi-fi in room. Guests can buy voucher for connecting to the internet, but it will be more attractive for the guests if hotel also providing free wi-fi connections.

Room Tip: Choose rooms with the view to the lake..

The architecture of building is very interesting, keeping in mind the genius loci of this location (hotel is locaded in area, where airships' were based in 1930s). The natural surroundings of Templiner see attracts one to take stoll or even some jogging. The location itself is quite off the city but the public transport service (tram, bus and regional train) is good, with terminus Bahnhof Pirschheide being located less than 3 minuts from the hotel entry. Trains on nearby tracks are sometimes quite noisy but I had no problem with it as normally living in the city center.

The architects were not sparing with space for entry halls and long corridors while rooms are more minimalistic with a little space left. The staff was okay and friendly. Only but quite important minus for this hotel is absolutely overpriced Internet. I always thought that it shuld be the standard for hotels of bussiness type to provide it for free for guests. The price 15 € / 24 hr. is hardly unbelivable and consider it to be a black splodge of this hotel.

This hotel is located near a river, I think is the Havel, because of that it has very nice views and atmosphere, also the hotel is beautiful. One bad, it does not have swimming pool and the price is not cheap so... but is near a train station and you can get to the center of Postdam almost any time, be careful with the coming back from center past 1 am.

The train to get there is the number 91 the last station.

Just to get things straight: this hotel is by no means bad. However, the Berlin/Potsdam area has a large selection of hotels in this price range, and I'd say there are definitely better options than this one.

The location right on the lakeshore is very pretty, although the train tracks next to the compound do cause some noise at times. On the upside I'd also place the food, which, at least partly, was very enjoyable. The service was okay for the most part, however, we also had one concierge who would not order a taxi in advance and asked us to come back 15 minutes before we wished to depart and re-order. What kind of service is that?

The rooms are very clean, the equipment is okay, although a bit on the old-school side (TV from the early 90s, maybe). For the price they ask, however, the rooms are, by any means, tiny, and the balcony is even worse... yes, it's nice to have one, but what good is it if you can hardly turn around on it without bumping your elbow into the rail? Really more of a fire escape than a balcony...

Design is always a matter of taste, I know that. I did not exactly like the modernist exterior design (reminds me of those long-legged combat robots from Star Wars, as large parts of the building rest on concrete stilts), but the interior was even worse. At least from my point of view, the hotel has the wonderful charme of a blend of nondescript office complex and youth hostel look.

All in all, really nothing to get excited about.

Kongresshotel is a huge property on the outskirts of Potsdam and right by the lake.
The building(s) are awsome, rooms tend to be small but nice and well equiped. This is a modern conference centre with dozens of rooms of all sizes and shapes. There is plenty of natural light, frendly smiling staff and a copious breakfast is served every morning. The only down side is the fact that the hotel being so big you end up walking hundreds of meters (literally!) to get to your room, or breakfast room or whatever you want in terms of facilities. Very recommendable nevertheless.
