“Very good hotel and great location”
Reviewed May 29, 2013

Friendly staff, quiet rooms and most importantly a good bed. I have no experience with the restaurant and bar. Location is very good, 2 trams stop in front of the hotel and very nice area accross the road with great restaurants and cafes.

My wife and I just stayed 4 nights in this hotel while visiting friends in Potsdam. Without doubt it is one of the best located hotels in Potsdam, and is in a lovely area full of interesting shops and restaurants. The hotel and staff were excellent and always provided umbrellas when we went out.
(unfortunately it rained a lot - May 2013)
We would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to anyone visiting Potsdam.
Great location, with fantastic connectivity (tram stop outside) and a lovely wine bar, restaurant next door.
Overly expensive breakfast but wonderful Cafe Heider across the street does a full range of breakfasts.
Potsdam is worth a visit!

Room Tip: We had a superior room in the older part of hotel but not facing the trams at the front and it was w...

My wife and I stayed 5 nights at this hotel, it is located perfectly for the walking tourist and all attraction can be travelled to on foot with ease. The hotel is very modern, clean and well appointed. The staff are very professional and extremely approachable and have good knowledge on what Potsdam has to offer and how to get about. The room was very clean, roomy and well furnished, apart from the old style TV that only broadcasts German stations. We did not get tea & coffee making facilities in the room and had to request a kettle and pay for milk from the bar, this is a negative in my book.

Spend 1 night here on business. Good central location especially for tourists and plenty of shops, restaurants and cafes in the immediate vicinity.

Reception was consistently friendly, hotel is clean, but shows its age and could use a refresh in parts.

Unfortunately, my room was right above one of the town's passage ways leading through the hotel's location, and there was a lot of noise until the early morning hours from noisy youths and drunken passers-by. I also thought that the breakfast was overpriced at 17€, but they did provide a good buffet set-up.

My first impression of this hotel was being welcomed by the nicest receptionist I have ever met.
He was so charming and went out of his way to be helpful, what a nice change!
The hotel itself is bright and airy, my room was lovely, nice bath, comfy beds, the only thing that annoyed me was after hanging the "Do not disturb" sign out at night the chamber maid knocked on my door at 8.30 to clean my room, if it hadn't been for this I couldn't fault this visit to the Voltaire.

We stayed in the NH Voltaire Potsdam for a weekend in January 2013. The rooms were clean and well appointed. Wifi is included. We stayed in a "superior room", and the size was comfortable, and we had a view into the Dutch Quarter of Potsdam. It is a short ride on the 92 or 96 tram from the Potsdam Hauptbahnhof (central station), and then is walking distance to all the major historical sites, including the sans soucci palace and gardens. The location would be great for most travellers as it is also close to many restaurants and shops. One tip if Sans soucci is the main reason you are travelling here: the majority of statues in the park are covered in protective boxes for the winter, so if you have the option of coming in the warmer months, this may a be better time to see the gardens. However, everything is still out and uncovered on the buildings themselves, so it is still nice see in the winter. The service in the hotel was acceptable, and the breakfast (if included) is substantial, with fruit, cereals, toast, cold meats, pasteries and hot breakfast (eggs and bacon etc) options. We opted for the "weekend extender" which allowed us to have the content of the minibar, very late check out (5pm) and included breakfast. There are many lovely cafes nearby for breakfast though, so it would be perhaps nicer to seek breakfast outside the hotel, and not pay the extra money! The one thing I found disappointing about the hotel was that the advertised "jacuzzi" is a single person spa bath in the wellness center. While there is both a steam and dry sauna, and a nice sitting/relaxation area in this part of the hotel, this small bath was a bit of a let down because I was thinking it was going to be a full sized hot-tub! However, this did not really detract from my overall experience at NH Voltaire, and I would reccomend to anyone who is looking for a comfortable base in the middle of the historic part of Potsdam.

Set in the historic centre the Hotel is somewhat faded but ticks the boxes for an overnight stay in this interesting escape from Berlin.
Breakfast at 17euros each seemed steep but within yards you have many options as cafes abound so we did this.
Pleasant staff , room was average but we had a very good rate.
Handy for shopping,Christmas Market and restaurants.
Potsdam would be better viewed in Summer as most of its Palaces were shut but this little town is very atmospheric in places.
