“Historic WW 2 location”

The 1945 Allied Potsdam conference was held in this palace. This shaped the future of Europe as it continued until the end of the Cold War and the fall of the Wall. Very well worth a visit. Good displays relevant to the Conference

“Walking in footsteps of history”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 29, 2013

It's fantastic to be able to visit the spot where such significant decisions were made and documents signed. You can just imagine the smoke from Churchill's cigars. My only quibble is the, what I think is silly, €3.00 fee to take photos inside.

“Important Historical site............”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 26, 2013

Where Churchill, Stalin and Truman had their meeting to decide what Europe would look like after WWII ended. We had an excellent guide who brought the details of the meeting and intrigue into perspective and made it come alive. If you love history be sure to visit this site.

“The place where West capitulated to Stalin”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 23, 2013

History did take place in this castle. The last German monarch escaped from here in February 1945 avoiding to become Russian prisoner. Roosvelt, Churchill and Stalin set a framework of divided Europe and divided Germany. KGB including president Putin stayed there for forty years. Now there is a hotel and memory. Memory of shameful acts of western leaders who were not able to stand up to Stalin.

“Average, due to time constraints.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 13, 2013

We visited this site as part of a Viking River cruise and sadly only browsed around outside. I would imagine it was fascinating if we could have gone inside as this is the site of the Potsdam Conference, in which Stalin, Churchill, and Truman met to decide the fate of Europe after WWII. Sadly it appeared we did not have enough time to do so. However, the buildings are beautiful to view as are the gardens and grounds. Very English Tudor in style.
