The historic significance of this place makes it a must see.

This stop was part of an afternoon Potsdam tour, therefore we only did a tour of the exterior.

The place is highly recommended. It is a piece of living history where you get to see the actual location where one of the most important conferences, with Churchill, Stalin, Truman and De Gaul took place. Also, you get to see the different quarters for the different Allies.
A beautiful location, that was also used as a set for the film the Good German

The Cecilienhof in the New Garden seemed more like a modern manor house than a royal palace. Indeed it was built during the Great War for the Crown Prince and Princess, and the whole place shows her touch. Not only was the Conference Room where the Potsdam Conference was held their living room, all you had to do was walk up the wooden staircase one flight to reach Princess Cecilie's music room. A secret door to the right of the marble fireplace leads to her private writing room with a view of the lake and the gardens from her private writing desk. As if this wasn't enough she had a room designed to resemble the cabin of a ship!

A beautiful setting within a large garden and forest on the lake. The location of the meeting of Truman, Stalin, Churchill and Attlee (Churchill's successor) to decide the fate of Germany post-WW2. The castle is also used as a hotel, and is a nice part of a day exploring around Potsdam, the surrounding forest and lakes. I highly recommend renting a bicycle (either in Berlin or in Potsdam). Bicycles can be taken out to Wannsee or Potsdam on the S-Bahn. The bicycle trails are wonderful.

This is where some of the big decisions were made after WWII. Leaders from US, England and Russia met here. On top of that you can walk through the New Garden park. Lots of open space that is more natural.
