“Doesnt look like palace”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 14, 2012

It looks more like a house in countryside of Germany. Didnt have a chance to get into the palace because it is closed on every Monday. Still we got a chance to look, around the back part which included the beautiful garden fulled of roses and many more.

“Beautiful from outside and real history”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 10, 2012

Cecilienhof is a building with great historical importance. In the summer the gardens are absolutely stunning. The huge red soviet star, planted on the orders of Stalin displays both the beauty and the importance of this building. I haven't seen inside the building, which now features a hotel, but it is still a highlight of Potsdam for me.

“Potsdam Conference”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 3, 2012

Until 1945 the house was inhabited by the German Crown Prince. He fled the Russians leaing the house. It is a beautiful building and the gardens are great. Well worth a look

“Must see for any history buff”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 29, 2012

This was the site of the famous conference with Stalin, Truman and Churchill in which many decisions were made regarding Europe after World War II. A visit to this site will give you an enhanced understanding both of post-World War II events but current day realities. I was part of a group and so had a guided tour but there is an excellent audio tour available.

“Great moment in history revisited”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 10, 2012

The exhibit area is actually very small (rest of palace taken up by hotel and restaurant) but the audio guide is excellent. Not only are there the usual stations (10 here) there is a red button and a blue button if you choose to go into greater detail. The explanation was very clear and interesting. If you listen and read carefully, it was not here that postwar Europe was divided but earlier at Yalta, but it was probably here that the Cold War started. Interestingly it was Truman's first meeting with Stalin, and Churchill (lost the election) was replaced by Atlee. Both Churchill and Atlee had to fly back to London midway. Easy to get here by train-bus from Berlin, or even direct from Schonefield. Even better to stay in the hotel.
