This is part of the museum but entrance to the café is not dependent on being a visitor to the museum. The staff were not particularly friendly and the interior was rather bare. Food quality was reasonable but expensive and the selection was not extensive. Service was slow and a request for directions to the washroom was not met with a helpful response - as if it were an effort to give out such information.

A trip to Potsdam near Berlin is now enhanced by a new art museum in a restored Palace. The exhibitions are of the highest standard..

Visited the Barberini museum whilst in Berlin for the neo-impressionist exhibition by Cross. The museum has undergone extensive restoration and only opened fairly recently (not open on last visit to Potsdam 2 yrs ago). The museum wasn't too busy on a Sunday and the entry cost was €17p/p. The exhibition should appeal to most people who enjoy the art style and has quite a good selection of oil paintings with a few watercolors and some sketches. Must say personally not really to my taste but still a great experience.
There is a collection of pre-unification DDR and modern art also on display- not my taste and some ancient artifacts, marble and bronze sculptures- usual offerings and nice to see.
The museum itself is really nice and they have done a terrific job. Take the opportunity to pop out to the back or riverside as there are nice park and river views.
Lockers and cloak/coat storage and store are available.
There is also a cafe/restaurant offering reasonable selection to suit most tastes.
Very impressed with the fantastic Alt Stadt rejuvenation in Potsdam and this museum is one of the stars.
Potsdam and this museum worthwhile side trip if visiting Berlin.

This is a fine new museum. The Cafe and Restaurant is small but ok. Service is ok, menu not so great. It is a small location.the waiting list for the museum is long, so this restaurant is a good a,ternate even for waiting.

The Museum Barberini is an impressive building which got recently reconstructed after it was destroyed during the war. The exhibition is regularly changing so you can go there many times a year without it getting boring. There are options for becoming a member in different categories which are highly recommend if you plan on visiting more often than once. The rooms are freshly colored, fitting the artworks, before a new exhibition starts, which is very impressive. The staff is very nice. There are lockers and a checkroom, where you can leave your stuff. There are audioguides available or you can download the app on your phone with the free WiFi in the museum, to choose from different tours to guide you through the museum. On the top floor is a media room where most of the artworks can be viewed digitally and clips about artists can be watched. There is also a gift shop and a small Café. Definitely worth a visit whenever you like art or not.
