GastHaus Bremer Backpacker Hostel

Reviewed August 3, 2010

Stayed between July 18-25, 2010 during the COSPAR 2010 conference at Bremen. Very convenient location close the main railway station and the conference centre. The staff were very friendly and could speak in English.
The greatest attraction was the availability of a free Kitchen where we could cook our own indian dishes without any problem. Fridge to store our personal food items and dish washer facility was also available. A coin operated Washing Machine and a Drier took care of all our washing needs.

Booked 8 person dorm with friends. Good location near the Hauptbahnhof and a little shop just a couple of corners away. Friendly and helpful staff with good facilities.

This hostel is in an ideal spot for exploring this very pretty city. It is very near the main train station and all my sightseeing I could do walking. I found it a clean and safe house with good showers on 3 floors, taps on every floor and clean and spacious rooms with
good beds. I cooked in the very nice kitchen and could do all my laundry. The staff were very friendly and helpful and I met with a lot of interesting people from everywhere.

I stay in Bremen two days a week as part of my job at the university. After considerable research and a few nights in some ancient and creaky bed and breakfasts, I found the Backpacker Hostel in Bremen. What is there to like? The entire hostel is very clean and safe. No strangers wander about to frighten you on the way to the bathroom. The rooms are relatively cheap too. The showers are hot, and the kitchen has a fridge in which to store drinks. The location is near the Hauptbahnhof, which is only a few minutes from the old city center.

Stayed two nights in April 2004 in a single room. It's a clean, friendly, and above all cheap place to stay and for that I'd recommend it. But I don't know if I'd want to stay more than a day or two because of access to water! It sounds funny, but there are very few sinks in the place. I stayed on the 3rd floor and the nearest sink was on the 1st floor. That sink had only a trickle of cold water. There was only one sink with hot water, in the shower room on the ground floor. There were very few people there in April but in summer I could imagine queues for the sink. But hey, if you bring your own drinking water, forget about shaving, and don't mind walking up and down a couple of flights of stairs to brush your teeth or take a shower, it's a nice place otherwise, and I think more people should visit Bremen. It's a really nice little city.
