Having read one of the Tripadvisor reviews (that said no need to book) we turned up on a soaking wet Monday evening to find that the place was full. We returned the next day for a meal that was made memorable by the surroundings rather than the food. The menu is mainly traditional German with some Italian twists. Our food was rather bland and our choice of wine, a dry rose, only so-so. However the location and atmosphere made it worth the visit.

We enjoyed our one visit and it's an experience not to be missed.
It was a bit more sophisticated and subdued that we expected. As mentioned there are tables and benches in the cellar as well as a few smaller booths.
I believe there are guided tours on certain afternoons that take you through the cellar tunnels were many many bottles are kept. If interested just ask at the nearby Tourist Information office.

Great food and wine in a nice atmosphere. But the waitress was really having a bad day and was even rude and impolite in some situations.

Great restaurant with a lovely atmosphere. The Ratskeller restaurant is found in the cellar of the town hall and used to be a wine-cellar. And it still looks like one, with all the nice looking huge wine barrels. We definitely loved it! No need to book in advance as they have plenty of tables, although there is only limited amount of 'private tables' in the booths. Our waitress was very friendly and tried her upmost to translate the menu for us into English. The food was fantastic, local beer tasty - overall, it is a fabulous restaurant, not pricey at all and I definitely recommend it. I'd go back anytime!!

A restaurant defining culture of the city. It was very good ambience in the restaurant. The food was delicious. They have a pretty good dishes for fish.
