“Fine udon place, nice location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 18, 2013

Modern location, all-white minimal, with big common tables. Friendly and fast service. I had ebi gyoza and yuzu udon. Both very delicate, well presented. Very centrally located in front of the Volksbuehne. I liked it.

“Not good at all”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 12, 2013

Contemporary interior design and very spacious. Having decided what to order, the lack of staff was clearly noticeable which made me feel rather uneasy about this restaurant. Nevertheless, the menu looked very appealing with a variety of udon noodles and other Japanese noodle dishes as the name of the restaurant suggests. I had chicken curry udon. I believe that the udon noodle was the commonly available packeaged noodle rather than freshly made. The soup was also disappointing. It was clearly different from the authentic curry udon. I am not sure whether it was the effect of real spice or artificial flavouring but after sometime, I felt as if I was eating a “cup noodle”. The only fresh ingredient was the chopped spring onion. Rather disappointing about the pretentious Japanese restaurant.

“Fair price, acceptable taste in a European interpretation of Japan”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 2, 2013

Although this udon noodle restaurant isn't really authentic Japanese udon, it is in the range of acceptance for Japanese as localized Japanese food. The atmosphere is modern, European interpretation of Asia. It is recommendable to dine with a partner

We had Kamo udon and Yuzu udon.
Kamo udon was ok, a bit salty and perhaps need dashi to improve. It brought back the old memory of the famous Udon stand existed in Anchorage airport transit area in the Cold War days.

Yuzu was more Japanese in taste, and tasted good. The noodles used seem like so called "Nama udon tama" a factory made fresh noodles. Yes, it is acceptable but would be better with deep frozen noodles.

The service was fine, and pleasant.

“quality noodle soups”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2013

Susuru is a very good japanese restaurant, specialised in noodle soups.
Don't expect to find sushi and sashimi or a long list of dishes to choose from.
However it's a very particular place (fashion and relaxing atmosphere) which offers a good variety of udon soups.
The ones we tried were very tasty and refined and were a perfect solution to warm oursrselves a little bit during a cold Berlin's evening.
The place is clean and the staff is very kind.
Nothing for vegetarians in here.

“UDON - enjoy great Japanese noodles”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 12, 2013

Restaurant located in a side road in the eastern Center of the city close to 'Volksbuehne Theatre'. Fancy atmosphere, fashionable interior design. Japanese chefs, Japanese waitresses/waiters. Not a tourist trap, but a place to enjoy refined Japanese udon. I you love soup, if you Ike noodles and have not tried UDON yet, this is the place to visit. Always a good experience. If you want have a glas of sake (Japanese rice wine), susuru offers a good variety of sake, or just have your udon with a Japanese (Kirin) beer. Good to visit with a group of people. Tip: also try the starters like 'edamame' or 'gyoza' . A real Japanese experience. The restaurant could also be in Tokyo...! Save the money for the trip and visit Susuru :-)
