Description: Maximilians is cosiness personified! The restaurant has impressive copper and brass pumps and rustic-style furniture. It specialises in Bavarian cuisine, offering a large selection of good hearty food such as carpaccio dumplings and meat loaf, roast potatoes, fried eggs and Reiberdatschi (potato pancakes) served with apple compote. The waiting staff who are garbed in traditional Bavarian dress are constantly on the go, looking after the clientele of tourists, locals and Bavarian émigrés. This restaurant which is situated on the river Spree celebrates the Oktoberfest in September. The restaurant offers a selection of beer and wine.

Nice atmosphere, decorations and dimmed lights. It's a large restaurant where you'll find people of all ages and from all countries (this seems to be the norm in Berlin).

Prices are good, but not superb and the same goes for food portions. Service is good and quick. They may sometimes seem rude to some people, but they're not really impolite, just in a state of panic to get to the next customer - since this page is usually packed (get there early - ish to find an empty table).

The only thing i didn't like it's that the first table we sat at (we switched immediately) was placed at the worst possible spot next to the back door, as each time that door opened the cold wind blew right on us. That's a minor gripe thought and overall the place is really good.

Everything I expect from a German bar! Large range of beers, and you can get dark beer in 2litre mugs! The food was stereotypically German to the point of being touristy, but it was in large portions and really good! The waiting staff were very friendly and knowledgable.

If you are looking for some typically German dishes, would recommend Maximilians.

Food is very reasonably priced, very generous potion sizes and has a seasonal menu so food is fresh and not imported.

Good choice of beers available

This is one of the much cheaper places we stumbled upon when visiting Berlin last week. It's a lovely cosy place and the food was really lovely, I couldn't eat it all it was such a big portion! Watch out for the mixed sausage salad with bread - what I thought was grated cheese on the bread board was actually fresh horseradish - something I didn't realise until I took a hige bite!!! Only complaint was the staff were really abrupt and miserable. No smiles :0( Would go back though.
