We really enjoyed our Sunday evening at Weinerei Forum. The place is cozy and has a great atmosphere. You can choose from a selection of wines, have food (soup, pasta and salad) from the buffet and pay at the end. What we understood was that we should pay what we considered fair acccording to what we had had. However, the rude guy at the entrance checked what we had paid and made us pay a fixed price. It was not much (2 euro for the entrance and 2 euro per glass of wine), but the way he talked to us was not nice and polite at all! I would recommend this place if it wasn't for the service.

They have this great wine buffet after 8 pm which works on donations, quite unique experience. We had some food as well, it was simple but really good and filled the stomach. The glass as well as the house are always full in Weinerei ;)

dropped in to Weinerei in late Saturday afternoon after a busy day in Berlin.
Great atmosphere with lounge chairs, good coffee and wine, VERY reasonable prices and backround jazz music.
Free WiFi was a plus.

In a city famed for its night life, this little gem is worth the visit, if not solely for the novelty factor. 2 euros, essentially, gets you all the free wine you can drink (plus a small donation in the fish bowl before leaving). Weinerei is also a great wine bar, a place you would actually come to, the 2 euro honor code aside. Worth the trip and a nice change of pace from the doof doof scene.

I live a block from here and it's my favorite restaurant in Berlin. Not for perfectly constructed meals, but for the casual nonchalance of the restaurant filled with passionate people. The kitchen is big and worked by Bano who it seems is spending half the time also chatting with the customers and bringing a great energy to the place. The offer you a choice of a daily soup, the salad, a main which ranges from a roast chicken and mashed celery root to a pork chop, meatballs with Moroccan spices and roasted carrots. If you're lucky they have a sessert prepared. There's no menu. Just whatever is available that day. It feels more like coming to someone's home for dinner. No one expects to be able to order there! And yes you expect to chat with your friend who is cooking the dinner too. It has that same feel.

When you first arrive they ask you for two Euro which you drop into the head of a small statue that seems like it could have been a chia pet in a former life. For that 2 euro you get to drink and sample from the dozen wines they have open. Serve yourself. Love one in particular? Have as much as you like. I'm fond of the rose Prosecco that is named after the owner's mother. Farosa.

Here's what makes it even more unusual. There is NO BILL. You are shown a beautiful raised platter and asked to leave what you feel the meal is worth in the dish. They give no guidance. None. I would rather not too many people discover my secret love in Berlin, but if you do please be generous!
