If you go to Berlin, make sure you spend one of your dinners at Vau. It is a festival of tastes, textures and flavours. We had the scallops 2 ways, the duck ballottine as staters, then the halibut and the veal 2 ways as main, and finished with rage chocolate and the nougat desserts. All recommended. 200 euros per person including wine. But it is worth it.

As stated above, the starters were amazing. The King Crab salad and the amazing two-layers Scallop dish were fantastic. We didn't proceed to main courses, so I can't comment on them.
The service was professional and friendly, the prices reasonably-high and the overall experience - very good.
One final comment - what's with Berliners and Red German wines? Come on.... expand your horizons :)

We've been looking for a while for a special occasion restaurant in Berlin, and finally struck gold with this one. We had the taster menu of the month, and every course was great, with some that were really superstars (in particular the beef cooked two ways is simply fantastic). Their flexible attitude regarding the taster menu, allowing you to substitute courses, is also very welcome (though as it happened the ones on the menu all looked great, and so we didn't bother with substitutions, but I still thought it was a nice idea and added a personal touch). The food is German-inspired, but with none of the stodginess that you find in "traditional" German restaurants: a proper modern spin on everything that's best about German cooking. The portions are perfectly sized for the menu: by the end you are feeling comfortably full, but not stuffed. The atmosphere and decor is modern and elegant, and the service is attentive and friendly. It isn't cheap, but if you want a special night out, it's worth it.

We love Berlin, but have a trouble finding a restaurant that was not casual, traditional German or some non-German fare. This is it. The food is purely high German. The service is friendlier than French or Swiss but brings the efficiency of the Swiss and the style of the French. The wine service soars above all that I have encountered in Germany and Alsace. We are actually able to describe our favorite non-German styles and have them produce wonderful German wines of comparable but distinctly German or Austrian character. The food was creative and well executed but, again, distinctly German in style. Unique German flavor profiles but with French subtlety. My family of four (parents and two teen-aged sons) were thrilled with our individual choices--- each different, each prepared with great attention to detail.

The service was certainly of star quality, but sadly, the food was not.

We had the six-course October menu plus wine package. Every dish was just too concentrated and intense, the wines ditto. Generally speaking we enjoy distinct flavours, but this was simply too much of a muchness. We found that we left food on the plates, even though the portions were quite small. We would also have liked more vegetables, this was almost all protein and fats.
