We stopped here for a late lunch hoping for nothing more than a few beers and something to fill our bellies with. Well, that was exactly what we got. The beer was good in true German fashion and the food squashed our hungers. The sad part is that's pretty much all the positive I can say of the food. The so-called "summer salad" consisted of withered vegetables, a not-so-fresh looking avocado topped with fried cheese and some mysterious, gross ingredients. And all this for about 10 euros which made it the most expensive salad we could find in Berlin. Other portions were also expensive by Berlin standards.
The garden is nice and comfortable even on a rainy day. I would recommend Schleusenkrug to anybody looking to have a few drinks after visiting the nearby zoo or passing by on a walk in the park. I definitely wouldn't recommend eating here.

We stopped by here for lunch while on our Fat Tire Bike Tour and we were pleasantly surprised. Several groups descended upon this place at once and the staff was great. The gals that waited on us were friendly, smiling, and happy to help. The food was great and we ate and ordered inside. We sat next to the window and watched some of the boat traffic just a few feet away. It was rainy and we elected to sit inside. There was an option to order food outside from the grill and bring it inside with no problem. The guys staffing the grill weren't as friendly as the staff inside, but the fast food sausages were tasty and fast.

I found out about Schleusenkrug by accident. I was on the S Bahn just past the Berlin Zoo Station one evening. The train stopped between stations due to some problem and lights from this outdoor place shining through the trees caught my attention. When the train moved to the next station I got off and made the short walk through a park to SchleusenKrug. It is a large outdoor beer garden with picnic tables and long wooden seating areas. The ground is covered in pea gravel and is shaded with quite a few large trees. Unlike what we see in the U.S. , families bring their dogs down for a visit and it's common to see little kids running around and playing. Very relaxing. On weekends it's packed and on many summertime weekdays it's packed in the evening

They have a number of beers on tap and in bottles, plus a full bar that could probably make any known drink. I have tried an number of food items there on visits to Berlin and everything has been excellent. One specialty they make is the Flammkuchen - a French style thin Pizza - Yum !

If you are just going to order drinks, just go to the service windows and order. If you are ordering food, select a table and take note of it's number. Give the order taker your table number and your food will soon appear. English menus are available and most of the service team there speaks very good English.

SchleusenKrug is easy to find. From the Berlin Zoo S Bahn station come out of the station on the south/east side of the station. Turn left and walk along the station. After crossing the street there is a paved foot path between the zoo and the train tracks. It's about 800 feet down the path. The path is lit at night.

A second way to visit SchleusenKrug is by many of the boat tours that stop at Unterschleuse. You hop off the boat, walk 50 feet or so and spend some time in the garden, then hop on the next boat. What could be more relaxing ?

Located in the middle of a park, along a river near locks.

Traditional German dishes and beer. Not too expensive, great tasting and lots of outdoor seating!

Large beer garden, on a couple of levels. You get your drinks from the counter and take a seat. You can also order food here, very health, looked interesting. have English menu. They also have a grill on the lower level - serving sausages, pork chops and platters of grilled meat, we had the meat loaf, tasty, next time I go I will have the mixed platter as this looked great. Sat near the lock and watched the boats passing through, very relaxing. Enjoyed our visit adn will go again.
