Expectations were high since we’d read about Borchardt in several Berlin travel guides before visiting the city. Welcoming was very thoughtful and polite, though we had heard otherwise. We did not order the Schnitzel the Borchardt is famous for but had the Lobster curry and a steak. Was good and also the service was much better than most people write here. No celebrities unfortunately. 80 Euros for two main courses, two desserts and a few glasses of wine, does not some too expensive to me.

The door was open. My wife and I walked in to book a table. We were perusing the (fairly ordinary) menu whilst waiting to be attended to when an unsavoury looking troll with a red bandana on appeared from the kitchen and started barking at us in German. He unceremoniously and very rudely ushered us out of the door.
And someone thinks this a restaurant to see and be seen in????? I think I'd rather be seen morris dancing.
There are several excellent restaurants in this part of Berlin where the service is charming and accommodating. Try Bocca di Bacco round the corner on Friedrichstrasse if you want somewhere really good.

We were recommended this restaurant by someone local but sadly it did not live up to expectation! The food when it came was delicious but the service was appalling. Our waiter tried his very best and was charming but there were not enough staff and food was slow coming from the kitchens. We waited one and half hours for starters. We did not pay the full amount on the bill when we left.

The food was Ok not great but the space is amazing and the price was reasonable. The soup was bad but the lamb was very good.

People don't come to Germany for the food anyway

Still one of the well known seen-and-to-be-seen-Restaurants in Berlin, austrian/french upper-class-bistro-style cuisine, good service, even if it's not really cosy - don't expect a romantic dinner place. It's loud and bustling - but it's a lot of fun. Try the Wiener Schnitzel. Nice terrace in the summer. Reservations at Borchardt can be tricky if there's a big event like Berlinale in town, you may find yourself waiting for an hour or two for a table at the bar (which can be fun as well). The restaurant manager is a really nice guy, if you're charming to him, he'll be most likely charming to you. If you know somebody who's a frequent guest, go with him/her.
