“Beautiful apartments in an ideal location”
Reviewed December 11, 2013

We stayed in one of the extroverted apartments and loved the large windows, which let in a lot of light despite it being winter. The flats were also lovely and warm, which was much appreciated.

The staff were very friendly and the on-line information (available on their website) is very comprehensive.

I have just returned from a four-day stay in Berlin, where I stayed at the Miniloft. This is a unique hotel option, which was conceived to provide flexibility, functionality and comfort. The whole can be wonderfully explored in their website: http://www.miniloft.com
The Miniloft complex is strategically located in Mitte (which means middle or centre), Berlin's central borough, which has innumerable cultural, institutional, health, and educational facilities, all within comfortable walking distance from the apartments. Each Miniloft has been tastefully and beautifully appointed. I will definitely choose to stay at The Miniloft during my next visit to Berlin.

We had an 'introverted' apartment (no. 35) which gave us a kitchenette, dining table with chairs, couch, bed and bathroom.

The good stuff:
Our friends were staying in number 34 and there was an outer door we could close to shut off the main stairwell, meaning we could leave our apartment doors open and allow their kids to come and go between apartments.
The style of the architecture - concrete floors and minimal decoration. Very stylish!
Bathroom - the shower had great water pressure and the bath was nice and deep. Plenty of space in the bathroom to put all my essentials.
Plenty of storage for clothes - no dressers as such, but hanging shelves from an open wardrobe, with an extra rail by the door for hanging coats.
Kitchenette was small but functional. We had a cupboard with all the basics (pan, saucepans, utensils, plates, glasses, cups, etc) and also a small pantry of condiments - salt, pepper, oil, vinegar, etc. The fridge had a small stock of drinks but we chose to drink our own.
The price! EUR165 per night was great value for all that space, and because we had the kitchenette, we saved a lot of money by cooking our own breakfast each morning.
Plenty of transport nearby - the biggest train station in Berlin is a 10 minute walk down the road, and the U line has a station a short 5 minute walk up the road. Past that for another 5 minutes is the tram station.

The not so good stuff:
The bed is very low and had no bedhead. When we arrived it was pushed away from the wall. We tried it 'as is' for the first night but had a very uncomfortable sleep. You're only given two pillows and they are extremely soft - I ended up grabbing one of the cushions from the couch. In the morning, we pushed the bed against the wall and slept much better after that. In our friend's apartment (no 34) it wouldn't have been possible to do that as the 'wardrobe' is against the wall.
The room is not particularly soundproof and the road outside is a busy one, I wouldn't recommend staying in the introverted/extroverted apartments if you are a light sleeper.
We didn't know what to do with our luggage on the last day (check out is at 11am but we didn't need to head off to the airport until 2pm). As it was a Sunday, the office wasn't manned. Our friends ended up calling them on their 'emergency' number (I hope they didn't mind!) and we were told there was a luggage storage on level 1. This wasn't in the booklet we received on arrival and it would have been good to know.
Tip: The Natural History Museum is just up the road and well worth a visit!

Very modern building in East Berlin - reminds me a little of the Bilbao Guggenheim.
Lots of space, comfy double bed, small practical kitchen,
About five minutes walk to the nearest underground and less than ten mins to the large mainline station.
Very clean, staff to be congratulated.
A minor quibble: place needs to be softened a little, with a slightly less stiff approach to furnishing. A bedside table and a coffee table would be useful and a nice big soft chair for getting stuck into a book. But on the whole, an excellent place.

We stayed in a compact Miniloft apartment for 4 nights in September 2013. It was perfect for the two of us , comfortable with lots of natural light and equipt with all the necessities. It is close enough to the main train station to walk, handy to many cafes and restaurants, two supermarkets around the corner and transport within the city is convenient if required - we tended to walk everyhere. The information booklet provided is comprehensive with information on anything one might need to know for a visit to Berlin and also interesting to read about the development of Miniloft. All of our contact , from first enquiries from New Zealand by E-mail to checking in were handled in a professional ,efficient and friendly way.

Room Tip: We stayed in a compact apartment in the old building, ideal for 2 people, light, bright and modern i...

My wife, daughter and I have just returned from a wonderful week in Berlin. We stayed in one of the Miniloft classic apartments. It was very clean, well equipped and comfortable and the location is ideal for exploring the city. We made full use of the excellent guide supplied free to all guests which helped us find local restaurants and other points of interest.

I'd recommend one of these apartments to anyone who is looking for a stress-free stay in Berlin with maximum flexibility of choices. They are definitely good value for money.

Part of the appeal of these apartments was to experience living in a warehouse apartment - all open with no walls to separate the room functions - very different to how we normally live. We were in one of the largest apartments (extrovert) in the new block so had a complete wall of glass on one side and concrete celings (very high so room was even more airy), walls and floors on the rest. Apart from the bathroom there are no walls. We loved it - although realised we are too messy to make this a long term option! The concrete was surprisingly restful on the eye. The bed was very comfortable with a firm mattress (perfect) and the shower in the bathroom was excellent. The kitchen was a little perfunctory but sufficient for some basic cooking and breakfasts.
The area was very central - we could walk to most of the major East Berlin sights and there were some excellent restaurants and bars within 5 minutes.
The only downside was the road which the new block overlooks, but this was only noisy during the day and evening.
The booklet produced by Miniloft was a real added bonus and we used it to follow their recommended walks, as well as the restuarant and shopping information. The staff running the apartments were very helpful and booked restaurants for us when needed and were really helpful with any questions we had. We borrowed their DVD and used their local hire shop to get a film - useful to have if you do not travel with a computer and want a night in.
Really recommended if you want something a bit different.

Room Tip: The old block is quieter as it does not face the road. The largest apartments are very spacious for...
