This old hotel is well prepared for the future! Excellent rooms, not so big but with everything you would expect in a good quality hotel! Excellent restaurants, not very far from public transportation, nice neighborhood with many parks, good business center. Better than expected!

Once again we stayed in the Hotel Berlin, Berlin at the start of December (previously stayed here May 2010). We brought our extended family with us and everyone thought the best thing about our trip was the hotel!
We purchased a classic room in January for our trip in December, directly through the hotel.
As the hotel is undergoing renovation, we were given a Business Room instead of the Classic Room (fantastic rooms currently undergoing renovation to Premium Rooms - they came with a comfortable sitting area). All I can say is that the rooms in this hotel are so big and comfortable, it doesnt matter what kind of room you get. I wouldnt consider staying anywhere else in Berlin. In the past I have stayed in various Berlin hotels including the Kempinski on Ku'damm, the Artotel and Centrovital in Spandau, but this hotel is the best.
Firstly as a business class hotel you get a level of attention you wouldnt get elsewhere. Check in is so quick and efficient, reception staff are so helpful. Room service is fantastic and the household staff are friendly and welcoming. The rooms are surprisingly big, spacious and comfortable (order harder pillows though if necessary - traditionally in Europe pillows are soft).
The furnishings and decoration are modern, clean and well maintained.
Plenty of storage in the large wardrobe for cases etc. Great sized bathroom with a fantastic shower, showergels etc. And English TV! Always a plus.
Breakfast is expensive but there are plenty of great restaurants and cafes nearby for food. Cafe Einstein being my favourite. The bar serves lovely food (Berlin Burger highly recommended!) and cocktails. Nice and atmospheric in the evening after a long day shopping at the Christmas Markets : )
As its a business hotel, conferences are held in the conference room across from the bar. But this isnt a problem. It seems the conferences finish early evening leaving guests of the hotel free to lounge in the bar.
The location is perfect. The bus 100 is right outside the hotel and goes directly from the Zoo to Alexanderplatz. The tour buses also stop here! Witttenburg Platz and Nollendorfplatz U bahn are a short stroll away. KaDeWe is about a five minute walk. Its ideally located in the centre and so easy to get to and from the hotel. There is also a taxi rank across the road from the hotel.
The current renovations had no impact on our stay whatsoever, and I believe they will be finished in March 2012. I am staying here again in January 2012 for our 6th visit to Berlin and will hopefully get to see the new rooms on our 7th visit sometime in the near future!

Stayed nine nights, family trip. Excellent experience, good facilities, excellent staff. Prime location with easy bus (across the street) and subway (two blocks) to every area of Berlin. Junior suite quite large with nice sitting area and business room large by european standards as well. Great fitness/sauna area. WiFi free, but had to sign-in with code each day. Breakfast buffet pricey, but mutilingual desk staff very helpful with suggestions/directions for nearby quality cheap eats. Try Cafe Einstein (the original) around the corner.

Room Tip: Quieter rooms on the garden or Einemstrasse side.

Dear Jacknbrandy,

Thank you for your response and for taking the time to post your impressions on TripAdvisor. Good to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us and your feedback is highly valuable for all of us. Comparing to other hotels of the same category our prices range in the middle area and naturally prices in a street café are less than in a four star hotel. Nevertheless we are sorry that you did not feel comfortable with our charges.

We visited Berlin as part of our honeymoon and we were not disappointed. The hotel was in a very good location and the room was excellent. Taxi's were readily available outside if necessary and the ubahn was a 5 minute walk away.

The hotel had a huge lobby with takeaway food available. There was no wifi in the rooms only in the lobby area. We didnt experience the restaurant for breakfast so cannot comment.

There is a lovely department store Ka de We not far away and it has a great gourmet floor which is a must visit.

This was my first experience of Berlin and the hotel was a great addition.

This hotel is fairly well located. Very near the Zoo Train Station, and the very nice department store KA de WE. We had a business room, which was fairly spacious, nice bed, (if you like hard pillows, you need to ask for them) tea and coffee facilities, which comes incredibly handy when you come back from walking the city on a cold day. Bathroom very clean. Very good shower, towels slightly small, and not very many, and a bottle of shampoo, soap and body wash all in one. We did not try the breakfast or any other meal in the hotel. There is a very good italian restaurant Valentino very near the hotel. All in all a good hotel at a very reasonable price. Our checking in was the quickest we had that I can remember. We were the only ones arriving but I have waited for ages in other hotels with nobody around. The receptionist was friendly and very efficient. I must point out that the room had a lot of noise from constant traffic. If the noise bothers you, take a room indoors not facing the street.

Room Tip: Do not choose the cheapest rooms, upgrade it, and be careful with the noise from the street if your...

We stayed at the hotel for 4 nights on vacation. The staff was very courteous and helpful throughout our stay. Our room was very nice, simply and tastefully decorated roomy and quiet. We were on the fourth floor and could only hear traffic when we left the window open. There was a tiny fridge instead of a mini-bar and it worked out better for us. You can purchase drinks and snacks at the front counter as needed.

The hotel was very busy, but not overwhelming. The location was great---there were restaurants and cafes and grocery stores very close, and the Europa Center was well within walking distance. Plenty of shopping is nearby. Cabs are always out front if you don't feel like walking.

The only downside to this hotel is that they charge for wi-fi, and breakfast was NOT included in our booking. We paid 20 Euro pp for breakfast! I've stayed at 5-star hotels that wouldn't dream of charging for breakfast...especially at that rate. However, the breakfast was good. Wi-fi was expensive as well, but the speed was fine. We will stay here again when we visit Berlin, but we'll make sure to go out for breakfast and to skip the wi-fi.

Thank you very much for your very positive feedback and your time spent for doing it.
Alternatively to our breakfast buffet, we also offer a „Quick Breakfast“at the Bar Berlin, Berlin. It is served daily from 8am to 10am and you can order à la carte. Apparently there was a misunderstanding in relation to our wifi. We are currently in the transition to a free Internet system. This has been running since the 10th of November. We are truly sorry that we missed the chance to inform you about this condition
