“An artistic escape”
Reviewed April 11, 2013

The Hommage a Magritte was a perfect cosy home for my first visit to Berlin. The charming, quirky artwork adorning the walls made my three night stay particularly memorable and unique. Roman and Aurelia, the hosts, were welcoming and helpful at all times.

Although it is quite far west of the city centre, it is only a four minute walk to Uhlandstrasse U-Bahn station, or Savignyplatz for the faster S trains. Kurfurstenstrasse, a major shopping street regularly serviced by city circle bus tours, is very close by and I felt secure as a solo traveller in this neighbourhood.

Dear Matilda919,

thank you very much for your review. Being able to read that our place was "a perfect cosy home" for you is the best reward imaginable. That's why we started this project and what we all the time have hoped to hear from our guests.

However, on one point I can not agree completely with you. Berlin, a long time divided city, has traditionally more than one city centre, there is city west and city east. For a West-Berliner it would be a very strange to hear that Kurfürstendamm is located " quite far west of the city centre" . The people living here are very proud of the central location.

Many reviews have said the good things about this hotel, I agree and not going to repeat here. There are many elements I like in this hotel. Firstly, the breakfast is really good. The choice of food may be less than some 4/5-stars hotels, but the freshness, quality and comfort are definitely in top quality. It is so nice to start a day with great breakfast.

We stayed in a standard room, the room size is average but the art work on the wall is unique for each room which is very special. Hotel owner also showed us most of the rooms, they are ALL good. The large room is excellent in terms of the size and view. I am sure it would be even better in summer season. The only thing that could be improved is the size of the bathroom for standard room, which is a little bit too small.

Last but not least, the hotel owner is a very nice, talkative, helpful and passionate gentleman. He speaks excellent English and willing to help as much as he could. We had some problem in car renting, he gave us positive advice and opinion on how to change our travel plan.

The overall experience is comfortable, happy and satisfied during the time of our stay. We will definitely stay there again if we visit Berlin again.

Dear Guest,
thank you so much for your kind review. It was a pleasure to be able to make your stay in Berlin agreeable. By the way - it makes us happy to see our guests feeling good here, but ( what is perhaps of some importance) we still think there is a room for improvement. Come back next year, this fascinating city deserves a little bit longer stay.

Warmest regards
Roman

We were here last week - a perfect stay in Berlin. Highly recommended for location (near K-dam and Sivignyplatz, near subways), great breakfast (even around 9.30) and great service by Aurelia and Roman. Hope to return but then with our kids.

The few days spent at Hommage a Magritte, convinced me that if a host really respects his guests and his wholeheartedly committed to his ideals, success will come his way. This is not luxury, this is art with a friendly face, simplicity, tranquility and imagination under one roof close to anywhere and everywhere is acessible in a european metropolis. There is also this feeling of a willingness to help at all cost from the owners. I travell a lot, I,ve been to North America, the Caribbean, Amsterdam, the Hague in the last 12 mths. And the winner is Berlin, why ? because of Magritte. By the way, for jogging enthusiasts, it's a stones throw from Tiergarten. Thanks for the breakfast, everthing sooo fresh. I'll be back.

Back to the old good times.

A hidden gem at the best possible location: just two steps away from the famous Kurfuerstendamm. Definitely one of the most charming hotels that I've ever stayed in. For me it was like a journey in the lost past times, when guests were still guests and not only marketing targets of travel industry. Situated in an old building but completely refurbished and moderinzed inside. Everything - the design, the location, the breakfast - everything was in my opinion perfect and I couldn't have wished to make a better choice.

Hommage is a family operated business so you can expect that the owner will take care of you and your needs. The hotel is very clean and suitable for people with allergies: there are no carpets in guest rooms and the pets are not allowed.

The room itself was bright, had stucco ceiling and surrealistic artwork painted directly on the the wall (Hommage is a Magritte-themed hotel), My bed was large and comfortable, the modern bathroom was smaller, but sufficient.

In summary: a very good value for the money. I can recommend this hotel to individual travellers looking for unforgettable moments and convenient location.

We were absolutely charmed by this place. A delight for any art lover - every room is beautifully decorated with frescos based on Rene Magritte's paintings. The atmosphere was very friendly, the service efficient and flawless, the breakfast tasty and generous. The location is perfect, in a quiet street right next to Kurfursterdamm. Fast and reliable free Wifi connection in the whole hotel. Good value for money. Convenient car park nearby. Great shopping and dining opportunities within walking distance. We strongly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Berlin.

Dear Michal Babilas,

thank you for your kind review - my wife and me really appreciate it. We are looking forward for your next visit! And do not forget: Deutsche Oper is in spring only a walk away, the next time there will be no need to take a cab to get there.

Superb service, the owners are extremely welcoming and friendly. The hotel is situated right in the heart of Berlin, with many galleries and restaurants around the area. Beautiful mural illustrations add artistic value to the hotel. The place provided quiet, peaceful atmosphere that let us relax and get a good night's sleep.
