“Nice big rooms”
Reviewed April 11, 2013

Very nice hotel, with unusually big rooms (privilege rooms). Nice with Senseo coffee machine. Extra bed was not so comfortable, so we put the madras on the floor.
Will definitely stay here again.
Reception desk very helpful.

Check in was fine the member of staff was helpful. Our room was a really good size, clean and quiet. The beds were two twin beds pushed together with separate duvets, which were very thin and meant we both work up cold in the night. The mattresses weren't great and could do with replacing. The bathroom was clean and the shower was powerful. It was unfortunate that the hot water was not working properly so that the water varied in temperature from hotish to warmish. The positives were that breakfast was good and varied and the staff were helpful and friendly.
The location was great and near the underground and also a hop on and hop off tour bus stop. It was an ideal spot to stay in to be able to explore Berlin.

Stayed March 29 - 31. Particularly nice hotel, very friendly and helpful staff. Conveniently located near transport links in a quiet neighbourhood. I would recommend this hotel to family and friends. Decor is slightly outdated or not to my taste either way I would stay here again.

Very central place and the hotel price is attractive. 5-10min walk from shopping street Kurfürstendamm, "chinese area" (good cheap cafeteria, bake, asia restaurants).
+ Good service when we need help/advisor.
+ clean
+ safe box
+ close to the super modern Berlin Hauptbahnhof, alexandra, Friedrichstr, Potsdamer Platz, Spandau, potsdamer. The stations are clean, big shopping area and food-courts anywhere
+ close to supermarked Edeka
+ bus M29 direct to Checkpoint Charles
+ 5min with bus M101 M102 to Zoologischer Garten, and then take the train direct to Schoenefeld airport (thanks Dani :-) )
- internet is sloow (even the signal is strong); 50m on the left of the hotel is a Internet cafe you can try
-all the houses on this street (block) have the same house number 38-49, quite confuse to find the hotel (just after the egyptian restaurant). Even and non-even number order on streets are not existed in many places
Beside the history, Berlin is a place for shopping lover, food/cake lover.

Room Tip: superior room on 3. floor is big, there are bed for 3 persons (sofa).

For some reason the theme of the decor in the hotel is .... Provence. Why would we look at vistas of lavender and Mediterranean sunshine in the middle if Berlin is a mystery, but apart from this peeve there is nothing to complain about. The rooms are very big for European hotels, comfortable and clean. Breakfast is surprisingly generous. Location is great for exploring the city. Would choose it again, no doubt.

Pros:
The hotel location is simply great, 10 minute walk from the Zoo station, a supermarket close by, a variety of restaurants and cafes nearby.
The rooms are very clean and the breakfast is very rich

Cons:
We arrived at the hotel at 10:30AM when the room entry time is 3PM, so we left our luggage and went on for some sightseeing.
We came back at 2:30PM to get the room, after all we were after a long day of flight and arrangements.

The receptionist said that our specific rooms were not ready yet, and we waited with another couple.
We waited at the lobby, assuming that we'll have our room ready in couple of minutes.
At 3PM the room was not ready and the receptionist seemed indifferent about the whole situation.
We received our room at 4:15PM, exhausted and angry.

Upon arriving the room, we received a call from the receptionist who said that they will not charge us the extra 80EUR for the room.
According to the hotel, someone called on our behalf (they never said who it was) and asked for a room upgrade, and they will not charge us extra.
Just to clarify, we never called the hotel to ask for an upgrade.

We wanted to put the passports and our money in the safe, but it did not work, so we came down to the receptionist and explained the situation.
They offered to keep it in the hotel safe but we refused and wanted the safe fixed.
We waited for about 15 minutes and the safe was fixed.
The other couple claimed their safe did not work as well.

No one from the staff thought they should apologize or explain the situation to us, for them it appeared just fine to give a room an hour late with unfunctional safe.
We asked to speak with the manager, but she was not present and we were told she will be there the following day.
She apologized and said we will receive complimentary wine and fruit, which we did.

We bought some milk and groceries at the nearby supermarket and put them in the room fridge, just to find out the following day it was not working and the milk gone sour.
Again, we came to the reception and explained what happened. Again, the receptionist was indifferent and just stated the technician was not present.
The fridge was not fixed when we left the hotel, nobody cared for the money we spent for the groceries.

This is not how a 4 star hotel in the heart of Berlin should treat customers.
We've been around the world and we were never treated this way before.
We understand unexpected things may occur but when they do, the way the hotel staff is handling the situation is all that matters.
It's easy to give 5 stars when everything is just fine, but hope and pray there won't be anything wrong with your stay, or nobody will care.

We will definitely return to Berlin, but we will not stay in this hotel again.

We stayed at the hotel between 12/30/12 - 3/1/13
