“The Best Location You Can Find in Berlin...”

I have just returned from a wonderful trip to Germany's capital. We have the luck to stay in a "piece" of luxurious Rocco Forte Collection and if you have some money to spend, definitely pick Hotel de Rome, located right in the heart of Berlin next to famous Unter den Linden which allows you to walk everywhere around...Front office very friendly, Concierge very well informed and extremely helpful, housekeeping attentive and the swimming pool, sauna and steam bath - just gorgeous after whole day walking in rain...

My wife and I spent two nights at Hotel de Rome. The location is outstanding - walking distance to key central buildings, museums and sites - yet much more private than other luxury hotels in central Berlin. The entrance is low-key and not a mass of huddled tourists. The doormen, porters and staff remember your name and service is spot-on. It might go without saying, but "spot-on" service in Germany might come across just a bit cold to non-Germans, but the important thing is the staff at this hotel does not miss a beat. If you're a fan of the 4pm "high tea" the one served at this hotel is outstanding. In terms of the experience, this is not a hotel bubbling with activity and excitement. You may feel like the most important guest in the hotel, but then again you may feel like the only guest. It's private, luxurious and pleasant.

I travelled to Berlin to visit a friend and wanted to stay in a chic hotel in a central location. My friend advised the Rome, saying it was the 'in' place in Berlin right now and that lots of famous people hung out in the hotel bar.

I'm not averse to a bit of Claudia Shiffer spotting, but mostly it was the idea of a stylish well located boutique hotel that appealed to me.

I booked a 'standard' room via the internet, thinking I should keep costs low, well, relatively speaking. I was suprised and delighted to find that my standard room was large and spacious and the bathroom a dream come true. Big, with a great shower and bath, a powerful hairdryer, plus all those lovely free cosmetics hotels of this calibre come with.

The Rome is super modern but manages to still be very comfortable with a luxurious feel, in the way that some of the Schrager hotels fail.

One of the best features for me (aside from the great bathroom) is that in the mornings the hotel was wonderfully quiet. Some places, despite being pricey, have an irritating array of vacuming and cleaning noises in the passages outside your room making it difficult to have a well deserved lie-in. Which is what holidays are all about right?

The staff were very helpful and responsive and not in the least bit snooty. My husband regularly stays in the Adlon for business and I've told him he needs to try the the Rome asap because I know he will love it.

I'd advise trying one of the online booking sites to get a good deal.

The hotel is actually part of an old bank, with a gorgeous facade exuding charm and grace. Absolutely stunning. The interior is very nicely decorated, very classy ambience with top quality furnshings and wide corridors. There's a beautiful heated pool and well equipped gym with fruit and water. Arrived by taxi and the doorman already knew my name - no doubt he has a list of guests and their ETAs but still pretty impressive. The location is brilliant, 15 mins stroll to the Brandenburg Gate, Reichstag and Berlin Tower; around the corner from shops like Galeries Lafayette and 5 mins to a bunch of musuems. No problems with taxis as they wait outside at all hours.

Friendly and efficient check-in and escorted to a room with abysmal views of the other side of the U shaped building. This meant little natural light and no view, which was very disappointing but rooms facing the front wont have this issue. The classic room was large, with soaring high ceilings and was obviously touched by fancy interior decorators. The TV gives access to an extensive inbuilt CD library and free internet access to some email sites. The bed was some distance from the TV however so it wouldnt hurt to get a bigger TV. The "King" bed was actually two singles pushed together, very comfortable but rather disappointing and not what you would expect. Bathroom was impressive, stunning design with beautiful marble everywhere, heated floors and a vanity mirror that stays constantly illuminated. Water pressure was great but the temperature seemed to be limited to scaldingly hot or ice cold with not much in between. Generic toiletries are disapppointing though.

Breakfast was great, a nice buffet selection of cold items of the highest quality and a la carte hot items. Fresh and tasty. Service was excellent, staff at the restaurant during breakfast were outstanding, friendly and extremely efficient without being intrusive, addressing you by name at all times. In fact you are constantly addressed by name by almost everyone; I couldnt care less but its a nice gesture and some divas demand it. The younger staff were very warm and friendly while the older ones seemed stiff and somewhat cold . The clientle is mostly old money so that might explain their stuffy nature, or maybe they dont like younger guests. The rooftop bar gives (surprising since its only on the 4th floor) stunning views and drinks at equally stunning prices, but closes at 10.30pm which is a pity, since the sun only sets an hour before. Definitely worth a visit though for some great vistas of Berlin as the sun sets.

A stunning hotel with beautiful, cosy and extremely comfortable rooms. The only downside was the price, and being stuck with views of a wall at these prices. Having to pay extra for internet, tea and coffee etc after the hefty rate is also annoying and somewhat petty. Some fruit or chocolates would have been nice too.

My wife and I just returned from a long weekend in Berlin. Our stay at Hotel de Rome was basically flawless. We arrived early via an overnight flight from North America. We had requested early check in and our room was available on arrival. The entire facility is modern and clean - our 2nd floor room was very large. Nice bed, great linens, walk in closet, spotless bathroom with separate shower and large tub, heated floors, and a heated towel rack. The spa and pool area are equally polished. The bar was funky modern though expensive.

The service provided by each member of the staff was professional, efficient and energetic. The concierge arranged for dinner (good) and tickets to a local exhibition (no waiting in line). On checkout, I was offered to pay in US dollars at a very favorable exchange rate - avoiding the minor but annoying fees changed by the card issuer. Another minor but thoughtful courtesy provided by the well-trained staff.

The hotel is within a 5 minute walk of the main museum area and about the same distance in the other direction to the efficient public transit subway network (U-bahn / S-bahn).

We travel extensively and are hard pressed to find fault with Hotel de Rome as compared to other major international city hotels.
