Went on a beautiful sunny October day - there were very few people in the Soviet War Memorial and it felt really solemn. I didn't expect the Memorial to be so big and beautiful, and the trees that surround it really create an amazing ambiance. Ended up spending about an hour or so just sitting, enjoying the view and reading a book.

Treptower Park is a very lovely place to spent some time. Most people already mentioned the Soviet memorial but the park itself is very big and also offers some other attractions like the "Insel der Jugend" (an isle which you can reach through a big bridge). In summer you can often enjoy concerts or festivals on the isle or you can rent lovely canoes and discover Berlin via its water routes. The Park also merges into the Plänterwald, a little forest along the river "Spree".

The park was well kept. Better than when we visited 18 years ago. The eternal flames that used to burn on each corner of the square had gone. There were less weeds and the small hedges were well trimmed. We got off the train and walk along the river and through the woods to get to the Russian monument. It was a beautiful day and lots of families were leaving flowers at the monument.

History buffs should not miss the solemn and impressive Soviet memorial at Treptower Park. Its colossal size certainly conveys the weight of its convictions.
