“Excellent hotel, recommended!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 4, 2009

My other half and I stayed here for 5 nights in July 2007. Despite the constant rainfall (!) we had a great Berlin City break. We stayed at Hotel Melia and found it to be more than we could have asked for. The rooms were modwern and well equipped; the staff and service were good, and the location was perfect - close to public transport links, the tourist sites, and bars and restaurants. We would defintely recommend this hotel - we managed to get a good deal too so it worked out as excellent value for money.

We found the Hotel Melia Berlin well located and a very comfrotable place to spend five nights in Berlin. The room was clean and spacious, the staff was friendly and helpful, and the breakfasts were diversifed, complete and tasty. The hotel is a block away from Museum Island and near, the German Historical Museum, Unter den Linden and the Gendenmarket and within walking distance of many other tourist sites in what was East Berlin/East Germany. It's also a block away from the train station which covers the city as well as easy access to Potsdam and Wahnsee. Nearby were some of the best restaurants, both the well-recommended and local quality eateries. We couldn't have asked for more for the price.

The hotel was warm, quiet and comfortable and ideally situated for walking to main tourist sites. I was initially wary of its location so close to the railway station but there was no problem whatsoever. I agree with all other positive comments about the hotel.
Transport from airport:- we always get a taxi as its convenient and we think value for money (usually) . I must recommend a2b transfers. This is a new taxi service and is excellent value for money. Our plane was early but our driver was waiting and spoke excellent English. He gave us lots of visitors tips and was very friendly and helpful. He told us that our hotel was in East Berlin. We had not realised that and it would have been helpful to have known before we booked our trips in advance. He also told us not to worry about going anywhere in Berlin day or night as the city is very safe. It was. Our taxi fare was 35Euro for 2 people- substantially cheaper than all other taxis.
Tours. The Viator walking tour with Fabian was brilliant but be prepared for a lot of walking. We learnt so much but it was entertaining as well. We saw all the major sites and really got our bearings for the city. Tour was about £11 each - again amazing value.
The sites are amazing too. Don't forget to go to the top of the dome in the Reichstag building. A great experience, open until 10 at night and free. Audio guide also free.
Berlin is well worth a visit and we will be returning as there is so much to see.
We were surprised at the feeling of space in the city- large squares, beautiful buildings and plenty of greenery. There is something for everyone here.

There's not much I can add to the glowing reviews of this hotel, so I can only confirm how well placed the hotel is to many main attractions.  We didn't have breakfast at the hotel but there are plenty of options available from eateries across the river to many food options beneath the station.  Lovely room, we paid extra for a riverview (just under £400pp for four nights and flight) and the bathroom is compact and bijou, including bath and shower and bidet.  Excellent tiling and use of towelling robes and complimentary bottled water everyday is a nice touch on top of the usual hotel toiletries.  Staff are very helpful if you need them. If you get bored of all the currywurst and bratwurst and fancy something different, try Supergood which is a couple of doors away - they use fresh organic ingredients!Must dos:• The Reichstag – free, but beware the long queues – we queued for nearly three hours!• The East Side Gallery – how can you go to Berlin and not see the wall?• Eat Currywurst – it’s everywhere!• The Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church – free!  Follow this with ...• Eat at Ka De We (the second largest department store in Europe).

The hotel is located in Friedrichstrasse, only a 10 minute walk from Unter Den Linden, 20 minute walk from Alexanderplatz and next to the River Spree. We were given a very warm and informative welcome on arrival. The room was very modern and well presented with a view overlooking the river. We didn't have time to check out the gym and sauna as we were too busy touring the city. We did try breakfast on one morning, which is expensive at 22 euros per person. Reception did give us a card which gave us 2 for the price of one and there was an excellent choice of food on offer. There are plenty of other places to eat nearby though and much cheaper. Guten Morgen Franz is a lovely bistro 2 minutes walk just around the corner facing the river and you can easily eat there for under 20 euros for 2 people. The bed in the room was very comfortable and there was plenty of storage space. The flat screen TV had plenty of channels from many countries and there was also a huge choice of movies which were multi lingual for around 8 euros. To sum up this is a very modern hotel, with friendly staff and very handy for getting around on foot or using the trains from the Friedrichstrasse Bahnhof across the road.

I upgraded to the "Level" on the 7th floor when I booked for a weeks stay. The extras were outstanding and included a full breakfast on the 7th floor lounge up until 11am. We had a small step-out balcony with a sideview of the river. It is located about 30 metres from one of the mainline stations Friedrichstrasse in the heart of the city. It is located near many of the theaters and a 5 minute stroll alongside the river will bring you to the Reichstag building in one direction and to the main Museums in the other direction. A beautiful city with something for everyone. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful.
It is well worth buying a AB travel ticket for the duration of your stay as it allows you to travel on all modes of transport and if you want to travel into the C zone you can extend by paying €1.40 per one way trip. There are some great inexpensive restaurants in the area under the train line and we found the best one just over the bridge "The Boulevard".

Stayed two night in mid-Oct on business. I agree with other reviewers: great location, easy access to S Bahn, walking distance to key sights, very pleasant room overlooking the river, helpful staff. Did not use the restaurants. Far less expensive that the 'big brand' hotels. Exceeded my expectations.
