Melia Berlin is a stylish hotel with a great location. Try to do access any "standard" hotel services such as changing an EUR 100 note, and you are greeted with gruff suspicion by the front desk staff. Also, the exorbitant fees they charge for phone calls (between EUR 3 and 10 per call to German mobile numbers) are from the 1980s. Melia looks like a modern hotel, but needs to get with the times in terms of service and pricing.

Room Tip: If service and pricing of incidentals is important to you, then avoid Melia. If location matters ab...

The hotel is located in great spot just 1 min from the U+S BAHN station (Friedrichstrasse) which makes it very easy to move around and also come back for a rest.
The service was just great. The front desk are very helpful and pleasant and we used them for tips, advices and any question we had during our stay.
The SPA which is located on the top floor is great after a long day of walking (and we walked a lot)
In summary, great value for money on the heart of Mitte

Selected Melia because of its location: right by river Spree and at the edge of up and coming Mitte neighborhood, walking distance to all must see places in Berlin including the fantastic world-class museums on Museum Island. Our room was spacious, modern and clean.

However, if you are going charge high prices for breakfast, the least you can do is provide coffee in the rooms or at least make it available to the guests who do not want eat so much in the morning. Coffee is provided gratis in most hotels in the world. True, the Melia breakfast spread is quite lovely and ample but some of us are not ready to eat 24 Euro per person breakfasts early in the morning. We did that our first morning there, but next day we decided to walk to Mitte for lighter fare. Opted to order a pot of coffee to the room but they brought only two already filled small cups of coffee ?? Sure enough, after walking for a few short blocks, in nearby Oranienburger Street, we had delicious omelettes at a third of the price and just what we wanted to consume at 10:30 am on a Sunday morning.

That was truly our one complaint about this Melia. Berlin was our last stop during this journey through Germany and we had stayed in 5 other hotels, and with the exception of the hotel/castle in Oberwesel, all in the same price range. They all either offered coffee or included breakfasts in the morning in their price. It was a bit of a turn off in an otherwise wonderful stay and end of an amazing holiday through Germany.

Room Tip: For a quiet rest, we always request for an interior room, not facing the street or river.

A very good hotel in every sense (and at an affordable rate). Location is fantastic right at the end of Friedrichstrasse, being quite close to all the places you want to visit while in Berlin. The room was really big for European standards, and that is definetely a PLUS. Staff was very polite, and the gym was quite good. Would surely stay here again!

Melia Berlin is a comfortable and pleasant hotel. The staff is nice and helpfull. From my room, I had a beautiful view of the Spree river. One can hear from the room the noise of the big train and subway station, but it didn't really bother me. The best thing about Melia Berlin is its location, probably unbeatable. It's walking distance to a lot of interesting places and you can go anywhere by bus, train, etc.. If only they offered free wifi, it would be almost perfect.

I like the Melia Berlin because the staff are some of the friendliest I have encountered outside of Asia.

The Hotel is very well situated just opposite Friedrichstr. Station with a Supermarket (Rewe) within 10 metres walking distance. It is right next to most the important Museums (Museumsinsel). Both the German Parliament and, "Unter the Linden" can be reached on foot in under 20 minutes. The "Berliner Ensemble" and "Friedrichstadt Palast" are both within 5 minutes walking distance.

Alternatively, the Hotel also rents out bikes.

The rooms are functional, clean and well equipped but, be wary when leaving your mobile phone in one of the sockets overnight as it will not charge once the lights are out!

Some rooms give on the inner courtyard and have very bad cell reception. Plus no view whatsoever. Note that the Hotel has several rooms for disabled people which, should be a must but unfortunately isn't.

Tip: try and ask for one of the few rooms with a balcony.

The Hotel has a very nice (Tapas) Bar which is moderately priced and a small Gym and Sauna which you can use round the clock. (After 22:00 you need to ask the reception to turn the Sauna back on which they will do).

Around the Hotel there are several Restaurants and those along the River Spree feature outside Terraces.

Room Tip: Try and ask for one of the few rooms with a balcony and avoid rooms giving on the inner courtyard.
