Well, folks, that is a fabulous hotel.
Just as a background: We travel a lot, all over the world. And this is without a doubt a fabulous hotel.
That was our fifth time. Every time we stayed, we liked it very much. And this time we liked it even better. This time it was a special occasion for us and we got an upgrade to a luxury room,
The room was huge. HUGE. It was not a suite, although it could be counted as one, but just one huge room.
For the sake of those who did not read my reviews for my previous stays in regular rooms - they are although not as HUGE as the luxury room but super cozy.
Now to the point:
Location - very convenient, almost on the Ku'damm (50 m) but a bit quiter. Vapiano (Italian restaurant chain) in the building, can be a good fix for those who are not looking for fancy stuff.
10 mins from Zoologische Garten station of S-Bahn and just near the U-Bahn station.
10 mins from KaDeWe, P&C in one direction and from luxury shops in the opposite direction.
Those who are looking for good tea - KeDeWe has an excellent choice (Ronnefeldt, Kusmi, Palais des The, Lov, and more); there is another TeeGeschwendner shop near (~100 m) the hotel.
Savingy Platz that many restaurants, cafes and bars, for those who are looking for some evening experience, is a walking distance from the hotel.
Staff - super. This time they were even friendlier than previously. And they were super friendly before, I can tell you that.
Espresso - very good!
The best bathroom you will ever meet in a hotel. They have THE bathroom. There is a separate shower. When you want to take a shower, you don't have to climb into a bath (unless you want - and there is one for you), you don't have to worry about water spilling all over because you made a wrong move. Really, the best.
The toilet is separated (within the bathroom). So when you are finished with the shoer and you walk out, you don't have to stare at the toilet.
The room itself is very cozy. Warm colors, not too hi-tech, not the old style (not the false luxury style which some high rated hotels have, I mean). You come in the evening and you relax. You feel good.
TV has a lot of HD channels. There is a minibar but we did not use it, I am not sure what is inside. There was a complimentary bottle of water (which is always nice).
There is a free WiFi with some limited speed - it felt okay for all our needs, such as normal website reading, Facebook, maps, etc... We were informed that some faster WiFi can be purchased (however never tried that one).
One more thing to mention - it was very clean.
As to the transition to Sofitel, it went till now smoothly (in our opinion).
Overall advice: go for it! We have stayed in many hotels in Berlin, also in close surroundings.
But this one wins by a huge gap (only the bathroom is worth it, although my wife wants something similar at home - be aware, that might happen to you as well).
Traveled as a couple with a baby on 15th August. Stayed in a room on 8th floor.
