“Simple rooms in great location”
Reviewed October 17, 2010

From the outside this hostel looks more like an apartment building with a small courtyard in the middle of the building complex. Swipe card access throughout and free wifi reflect a more professional approach. My room was basic but spacious and clean, with a small balcony. The unisex bathrooms down the hall were clean but did not have any bench space in the cubicles for your belongings.

The location of this hostel was superb as everything is easy walking distance. The only downsides were that there is no breakfast included and that they charge you for sheets instead of including it in the room price. I actually had brought my own sheets but was told I could not use them and had to use their sheets. Also they only take cash for payments which is annoying.

Me and my bf stayed one night in a double room with shared bathroom facilities. I honestly think these people never cleaned the floor of the room, among the standard dust there were chewing gums on the floor! The mattress and the duvet were filthy and u had to made your own bed, so u had to deal with them. On top of everything, it was incredibly loud at night until 3am, or at least that's the last time I checked the clock. If you are looking for a cheap and decent accommodation in Berlin, don't take a room in this hostel, pick another one. If you don't mind dirty and noisy, suit yourself.

With the ash cloud looming over half of Europe I needed a place to sat quick. So I plumped for this place. What's the deal with hostels these days? Where is the grime, the dirty communal bathrooms, the early chucking out times, the curfews, the dodgy dorms, all these eye-openers I remember with a rose-tinted joy from criss-crossing Europe on an Interrail ticket for a few years back in the day. This place couldn't be more different, card key security, incredible clean rooms and bathrooms, a chillout area, internet, a cafe bar, and amazing friendly staff. I opted for a private room (yep, dorms not for me any more, though I saw them and they were very nice), comfy bed, great duvet, sound sleep. All right in the centre of Mitte, everything a short walk away. Just one member of staff was a bit angsty, couldn't decide if she was trying to be humorous or was just in a mood, otherwise this place would get the top mark. Endless coffee while I tried to rebook my BA flight was very welcome too, and the enforced stay ended up as a complete rediscovery of Prenzlauer Berg. Fantastic. And I got all the expenses paid back from BA. Result.

Central location near Museum Insel, clean, large dormitory rooms, cheap bar, good breakfasts available, good lockers, and inexpensive. Only one fly in the ointment: There was free WiFi, but it somehow stopped working 3 evenings out of the 4. I believe it is some kind of misconfiguration problem that they should have an expert examine and fix.

The front-desk staff tended to be breezy rather than warm, but they have good policies for handling any eventualities, so it all works out.

We just returned home after traveling in Europe for 7 weeks, staying mainly in Hostels. This hostel was one of the best we stayed in.

Location - Fantastic location, close to excellent bars, restaurants and easy access to metro and trains.
Rooms - bedrooms were very clean and spacious. The bathrooms were good and never had to wait for showers.
Staff - Extremely friendly and helpful. Assisted in doing Laundry and booking tours.

What a fantastic "hostel"! I'd say this is closer to being a hotel. Very stylish for a hostel, the rooms felt quite open rather than cosy, probably because of the huge windows and wooden floors (plus they're pretty big rooms!), but I loved it there. And what a location, too. Very close to the central Alexanderplatz which is where we began our adventure.

One downfall to our stay was the time it took to check in. Only one person seemed to be at the desk, and he was juggling between answering the phone and sorting out someone's seemingly complex problem. This might therefore have been no fault of his own, but we literally sat in the lobby for a good half an hour without even an apology or explanation before being served. In this time, we took advantage of their internet, which was quite cheap compared to a lot of places. We finally got checked in, remember you have to pay a compulsory €2.50 for bed clothes (but this is stated clearly on their website so it's not a hidden charge).

I think the only other slight downfall was the upkeep of the toilets, no problems with cleanliness, but the light wasn't working in one and they ran out of toilet paper in all of them at one point, however I informed a member of staff and the situations were resolved straight away.

However, despite the minor issues, it is undeniably an extremely clean and tidy hostel in a great location, very friendly staff, loads of information is available for tourist attractions and local events (plus they organise a pub crawl for visitors, we didn't have time to take advantage of this though!), there's a lovely bar area and a fantastic atmosphere.
