“Lux and chill out kool”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 14, 2013

We stayed from March 25th-28th to celebrate my partner’s birthday. We were in the Penthouse which has two bedrooms, two baths, two sitting areas, a kitchen, dining room, wood burning fireplace, and patio. Fixtures and furnishings were high end- think Duravit deep soaking tub- very nice after a day of touring. If you book through the Lux-11 website site, you are offer a discounted rate to upgrade to the Penthouse if available at check-in. Go for it. The beds were extremely comfortable and enough space for two couples traveling together. Our friend had the Value Room (the lowest category room) to herself. I believe it was room 315. It was also very spacious, by European and New York standards. This room category is fine for a couple as well. This room was also very modern and luxurious with a nice view of the T.V. tower.
The hotel itself is in an excellent location. (Thanks to fellow Tripadvisor reviewers for this choice.) Excellent boutiques, restaurants, and galleries in the area. Late night/early morning, there’s a great snack stand around the corner that has tasty Turkish pizza. BTW, directly across the street, there’s a great boutique is for the “in the know.” It looks like a vacant retail space without any indication or signs that it’s open. If all white is a reception table in the middle and a vase with flowers. By the entrance, there’s a little plaque that reads “Apartment.” You ring the doorbell, get buzzed in, go down a spiral stair well and you’re in an edgy boutique. Think Rick Owens and the like. We only heard of Apartment through another retailer.
Back to Lux 11. Lobby was hip and chill-out kool. Front desk staff was always friendly, professional, and helpful. The décor was modern & edgy without seeming to be trying so hard. Really the vibe of Berlin’s Mitte neighborhood, in general, is a very relaxed low key kool. I also think it’s kool that the hotel was once apartments for KGB.
Overall, very comfortable, excellent location, and great staff. Nothing to fault. We will return.

Room Tip: Book through hotel website and sign up for upgrade with reduced surcharge if available at check-in...

I have been there more than one year ago (winter 2010) and I want to share the experience. Actually it is a good hotel and deserve the right for a stay; room was sized enough and pretty strange as the bathroom was an open space just beside the bed... this old building was completely refurbished and with a touch of modern design. The style is really curios but at same time all comforts were there: a nice shower, a good music player (to plug your iPod/iPhone in) and other stylish details, sofa for example. Unfortunately the reception is small (but also by design) and it's like to be in a building with private flats as the exit is direct on the street unless you want to stop by the reception on your side...

Room Tip: Ask for it before booking, try to have a description.

With its perfect central Mitte location, original interior design and an overall comfort Lux11 offers a very good value for money (espacially when you get an early booking rate). The service is not as outstanding as in a nearby Circus hotel but still much better than in many similar hotels in the neighbourhood.

Room Tip: If available book a room with a street view balcony

Great location as well as contemporary living space. The kitchenette was very economical as we had breakfast in the room most mornings. Also, laundry machines are available for free! the underground is a 4-5 minutes walk with good shopping around the hotel. The staff was very friendly I would definitely stay there Again.

Hotel Luxe 11 uses one of tricks of the marketing trade...trendy lobby equals amazing photos. However, in this case it's a false facade. Behind the lobby are old outdated hallways and modern designed rooms that have fallen from beauty to beast. The service is as cold as the rooms. The location of the hotel is good but not great. It's in the Mitte district but a long walk to the areas of Mitte that are attractive. This is a three star hotel with four star marketing photos. A management magic trick.

This boutique hotel was once the Stasi headquarters but it's a lot more comfortable now than it must have been then. Handy for the Alexanderplatz station, it has a beautifully designed interior. We were upgraded to a junior suite for an extra 12 euros (ask for it when you make your booking). Rooms are spacious cool and stylish on a Wallpaper magazine way. Upmarket cosmetics and a kitchen and well stocked bar all help the feeling of being pampered, a great place to lay back and relax as you watch the snow outside if you visit in Winter as we did. Wi Fi is charged at 10 euros a day which was a bit steep, but overall, it is very good value and also well placed for exploring some of the city's buzzing nightlife

Lux 11 is a lovely hotel located in the Berlin Mitte district. It's a trendy district with lots of shopping and cafes/restaurants. We had great food every night and bought too much! It's also an easy walk to lots of sights and located close to a train station that can take you anywhere. The hotel itself has been renovated very nicely and has a good restaurant and a great bar. They did have a few functions on while we stayed there so it got a bit noisy when they were packing up early in the morning.

Just be aware of two things: Firstly, when I stayed there in November 2012, each of the hotel rooms only had one double bed (no twin beds). I was travelling with a friend and we had to share a double bed (we shoved a spare doona down the middle of the bed so we didnt roll into each other). The only other alternative was purchase a room each (too expensive!).

The second thing to know about is our bathroom formed part of our hotel room. That meant you could lie in bed and watch someone in the shower (the shower had clear glass walls). Now this might appeal to you but it didn't appeal to us. Thankfully the toilet was self contained and had a door!!

Room Tip: We had a room at the front of the building that looked at the giant TV tower. It was nice to watch i...
