“Nice and Well-located Hotel”
Reviewed July 2, 2013

We chose this hotel because of its central location close to the museums and the assurance of quality service under the banner of Courtyard Marriott, and we were not disappointed.

The hotel is conveniently accessed by airport buses and underground, and within walking distance of the museum island and many major tourist attractions and shopping areas. The modern designed guest rooms are spaceous, bright and clean, while a sumptuous breakfast can be included for a reasonable price of EURO 15 per person. Front desk service is helpful and courteous.

It was altogether a very pleasant stay in the hotel, which could even have been better if the free wifi service was not confined to the lobby area but extended to the guest rooms. Nevertheless, the airline check in provided by the busienss compute centre was useful.

For its reaonable price, convenient location and hospitable service, I would highly recommend the hiotel to any business or leisurely travels in Berlin.

Room Tip: ASk for a room facing the streeet rather than the courtyard.

Really nice hotel in Berlin. Very modern and spacious, especially the rooms. Rooms in inner part of the hotel has view to a patrium yard. Go for a room with view to the street.

Free wifi in rooms and in hotel, at least in this room category. Good deal at 109€ pr night.

Business center computers were old fashioned and some didnt work. Incredible, there where no free internet on these computers! Only to checkin on flights, which on top was difficult to handle.

Staff ok in reception, very good in the breakfast restaurant.

Hotel near to checkpont Charlie, Sony center etc.

Room Tip: Get room looking towards the street on high floor

We've been guests of this hotel in May 2013, for a week end in Berlin. We found a special offer, then I think we were lucky. Rooms are clean, spacious. Lobby is hospitable, attendands are gentle.
We had breakfast in the restaurant inside, the buffet was very good, the service too.
I'd come back again for sure, if I'd found similar daily rates!

We booked our room at the Courtyard Mariott due to its central location in Berlin. The hotel is located a few blocks from the Spittelmarkt U bahn station which makes it quite easy to access most all of the major tourist attractions in Berlin.
We found the hotel to be convenient, clean and quiet. The rooms were spacious by European standards and spotless. The beds and bedding were comfortable and the a/c was refreshing, especially since it was quite warm on one of the days. The room also has an in room refrigerator, but unlike other hotels that have a mini bar which isn’t used, there is space to place your own bottled water or drinks. Unlike many hotels, where you hear doors slamming, our room was completely quiet.
We had prepaid for breakfast buffet which saved about six Euros as day. The choices were immense with scrambled eggs, soft boiled eggs, potatoes, two types of sausages, bacon, a large variety of breads , yoghurt, fruit, meats, cheeses, juices and the list goes on. Though we would not normally eat such a huge breakfast, we opt to do so when travelling so we can skip lunch and eat dinner.
The staff at the hotel was very professional and friendly. Unlike some other reviews which said some staff were rude, we did experience any unprofessional behavior. Check in and check out were both quick and smooth.

Room Tip: Prepay breakfast to save some Euros. Eat a big breakfast and skip lunch.

The hotel was very modern, had large rooms, but was a bit off the beaten path. Now I like this, and see it as a great benefit to the economical traveler. By all means, you had access to the U-Bahn (1 block away), all the splendor of attractions, but a smaller selection of dining options.

The hotel room was clean (even though they rarely vacuum during extended stays.) I like to sleep in because of jet lag, and received daily calls from the front desk concerning my chamber service. It did not upset me, and considered it professional. I was a bit disappointed with the restaurant, as it was pricey and lacked an elaborate menu. Moreover, room service was not available. The chamber maid often forgot to leave coffee service, and I would have to make a call down to the front desk for replenishment. Aside from that, I felt comfortable in my room and found it quiet as a fortress!

I found an amazing mom and pop restaurant with an Italian theme, but served some great German traditional food. Just turn right out of the building, walk one block, and it can be found on the left.... The food was hand prepared, amazing, and about 25% the cost of anywhere else. It's not big on atmosphere, but the people that worked there were amazing. I probably spoke with them for 20-30minutes at a time.... The portions were large and the Spargel mit Schinken (white asparagus with potatoes, broccoli, hollandaise, and cheese baked over the top was my favorite!!! A large size pizza with gourmet toppings ran $4.25 Euro.

You will also enjoy the fact that the hotel is near the U2 Ubahn.... (Yes, the rock group got their name from this!) It will easily get you to Shoneberg, Tiergarten Zoo, Charlottenburg, etc. The cost is $2.50 Euro, and based on the honor system. You must use the machine at the entrance, deposit exact change, and validate your ticket before entering. It really is simple when you see it! Don't be afraid to take public transport, it's quiet and a great experience. Nothing could be cleaner.

Be sure to check out Checkpoint Charlie, the Wall exhibit, have some kebap in Shoneberg, visit Tier Garten for a Bier, have Curry Wurst (a ketchup reduction with curry) and Pommes (fries). Attractions are a bit pricey by American standards, but you must get out and walk around. I suggest buying some small travel books a few weeks before your trip to learn culture and history. It's a great build up to a wonderful and scenic city!!!

Buy your sandwich meats, rolls, butter, cheeses, and water at the nearby supermarket. You will love the options and experience.

Back to the hotel... I am a frequent traveler, and stay with hotels 50+ nights a year. I do have gold elite status with Marriott, but this did not provide me any perks at the hotel other than free internet (which was not very good). Don't expect the usual upgrades and very accommodating staff like the states. I knew this was a cultural thing, so I lowered expectations. Believe me, if you want to feel like you are in Germany, but not be cramped in a small space... Please stay at this hotel. Lastly, I reserve 5 stars for only the best accommodations. However, this hotel was fantastic.

Room Tip: Every room on the exterior is fantastic... The windows are triple insulated, and the doors are thick...

The hotel was very clean, our room was huge for european standards, and the staff was really helpful. Courtyard is near the US Checkpoint but is not real in the Center. We have to walk everyday near half an hour to Brandenburger tor, Potsdamer platz, and other touristic points, but we don't regret it. If you don't mind a little walk, this is an excellent place to stay.

Hotel is reasonable. Fairly standard Marriott. Excellent external soundproofing although some interior noise but not intrusive, comfy bed, good blackout curtains and useful little shop in the lobby. Room felt slightly dated, for example nowhere bythe bed to plug your phone in without unplugging a lamp. Reception staff very friendly. Location is ok, but not the best as although its close to Spittelmarkt Ubahn I found I had to change trains at least once to get most places I wanted to go.

However, like a previous reviewer I was also placed in a smoking room, which I didn't discover until I got up to the room itself. No mention of this at check-in and it certainly wasn't what I wanted or what I'd booked. The room smelled stale and you could instantly tell it was a smoking one. I was only staying for two nights and had too many other things to do to in Berlin to spend time trying to change it, which I suppose is what the hotel relies on. It does annoy me though when individual hotels do this, most seem to manage to avoid it, but those that don't are really telling you that they put their room occupancy levels above their customers' satisfaction.
