“Good business hotel close to Potsdamer Platz”
Reviewed February 25, 2013

I stayed at the Maritim for a couple of nights during a conference held at the hotel.

My initial impression was that this was a quality hotel; a Bellboy assisting with luggage from the taxi, quick efficient check-in and above standard décor and materials in the lobby.

I was in room 2058 which was a short walk from the lifts and relatively central to the hotel, certainly no complaints about long walks from the room to reception or conference areas. The room was larger than a lot of business rooms I stay in with plenty of room for luggage, a large bathroom area and a well presented main bedroom area. My only criticism is of the old style TV in a cabinet, but I understand from comments the hotel are undertaking a project to replace with flatscreen TV's. The room was very quiet and well maintained over the two days. I did notice that the minibar had not been restocked properly so mentioned this to the staff on reception (as I did not want to get stung for a bill of food/drinks I had not consumed - I am sure you have heard of that one before!), they efficiently replenished the minibar.

The selection at breakfast was excellent with omelettes available on request.

The service to the conference was very good too. Excellent food, plenty of drinks available in the conference rooms.

Positives:-
- Quality Hotel
- Service
- Room

Negatives
- Minibar not restocked - addressed immediately though
- Additional cost of internet/wifi (Really should be free these days!!)
- Old style small TV

The room was very nice and it was right across the road from where I needed to be. The TV in the room was very disapointing and you had to pay for extra channels - I very much enjoy staying in hotels in Germany so I can get English speaking channels. Not this time. Did not go to buffet breakfast as it was over priced and it is cheaper to get the room service breakfast with coffee and relax in you room.

It was great they gave me a late check out time of 12 noon, though I did not use it and left at 11am.

Very much enjoyed the stay.

Dear guest,

Thanks a lot for your visit in our hotel and for sharing your impressions here at Trip Advisor. We are very pleased that you enjoyed your stay.

With much regret we took note of your hints regarding the TV and the breakfast. Unfortunately, our options with the TV channels are limited, because we have only 24 free channels to our disposal. Among these there is an English, a French and an Arab channel. We hope that we will be able soon, to install new flat screen TV’s with more free channels. The price for our lavish breakfast buffet is in line with the market in the range of the 4-star-hotels. But of course we check our existing prices regularly.
Please accept our formal apology for the shortcomings.

Nevertheless, we hope that we can welcome you back on any future visits.

With best regards

Do upgrade your reservation to include the VIP Lounge on the 4th floor! Breakfast, and afternoon tea are included in the upgrade and it is well worth the minor expense. The room I shared with my mum was comfortable, spacious and very tastefully decorated (elegant)! We had a room on the 5th floor overlooking a rooftop greenspace, with views of spires and city lights, quite lovely! This visit was to attend an International Young Chef Competition Award dinner, held in the hotel ballroom-- Spectacular setting! The hotel is located near many Embassy's with beautiful gardens for an afternoon stroll. We didn't walk to shopping/sights (mum just can't walk as far these days) - but a short taxi ride got us anywhere we wanted to go! The staff was excellent. The room, very clean. I would definitely book another stay here if Berlin is on the route!

Coming from an overnight flight to Berlin in Oct2012, I took bus X09 from the Tegel airport to Zoologischer Garten subway station, then transferred to Bus 200 to get to the Maritim hotel where I stayed for 4 nights. I was so grateful that they allowed me to check in much earlier than the standard check in time, and the lobby area was really nice and spacious. The room had a nice decor, TV channels were minimal (you have to pay for extra channels), and the process for obtaining internet in the room was a little complicated for someone from the States. However, they did have complimentary internet in the business center (there was only one computer at the time of my stay). In terms of location, there are no stores in the immediate vicinity, but the Tiergarten park is a nice place to take a stroll. I walked to Potsdamer Platz (10 minute walk from hotel) where shops, supermarkets, and train station are located. Other times, I walked to the bus stop (5 minute walk from hotel) to catch Bus 200 back to Zoologischer Garten subway area, which also has a lot of shops, restaurants, and the starting point for some of the walking tours. Overall, it was a good stay.

I have now stayed twice at this hotel who were providing us the venue for a large conference which included courses, catering and constantly changing goalposts. The hotel staff were always so charming and helpful, rose to every challenge and could not have made the guests feel more welcome or at home. Highly recommend this hotel for business or pleasure.

My one night stay revealed that this Maritim is a bit more upscale than some of the others I've stayed this trip, with good rooms with and elegant feel and an above average breakfast. The problem is at this level hotel some things should be better like the towels which are from a low budget motel and I'm pretty sure the TV is a 90s model, fix those things and the hotel would be better.

Dear guest,

With much interest we have read your feedback regarding your stay at our hotel and thank you very much for your visit and taking the time for this evaluation. We are glad that you were satisfied in general. Your criticism we can understand and we apologize for any inconvenience caused.

The purchase of new televisions for our rooms is already being planned and is organized centrally for several hotels of our company. This requires, however, in a house of our size a longer preparation and investment time.

The replacement of worn-out hotel laundry is an ongoing process in our hotel. We are always trying to have proper towels afloat. We are very sorry that you still got towels with poor quality. Of course we have discussed your criticism immediately with our Executive Housekeeper and asked for a thorough review of our hotel laundry.

Nevertheless we hope we can welcome you back as a guest occasionally.

With best regards

Our goal was to attend a concert at the Berlim Philamoniker Concert Hall. Just turn right when you leave the hotel, walk some 700 meters and you reach it. Oscar Scharoun wanted to mimic a street musician playing and people gathering to enjoy the music. The architecture and the acoustics of the concert hall are undescribably beautiful and you are transported to worlds beyond your imagination. Siegessaule
Straight ahead from the hotel to the right walking on Stauffenbergstrasse you reach the superb Tiergarten and if you choose the straight ahead path you reach Siegessaule. To reach it there are four houses right in the axis of the 17 juni strasse where you reach the underground tunnel to go to the top of the Siegessaule and have a glimpse of the Tiergarten and Berlim.
Awesome sight! We were lucky. It snowed and to enjoy the leaf-strewn ground insterspersed by the reflection of the trunk of the trees in a wonderful chiaro escuro play next to snow-covered fields was awesome. The reflection of the trees on the perfectly still surface of the meandering river with this fall/winter effects is a dream.
After this you are fit to enjoy the wonderful pool and strong water massage jets and the wonderful Finnish sauna and steam sauna.
Very resourceful staff and wonderful food.
And you can even go by foot to Hauptbahnhof or just take a taxi right at the Sigmund Strasse and go all the way through the tunnel in 5 to 10 minutes to the Hauptbahnhof.
Ideal spot for you to stay and join Love Parade that happens right at the SiegesSaule!

Room Tip: They offer upgrade rooms on higher floors. But who wants to enjoy a room when there is so much to do...
