Kima Hotel

We booked this hotel because of the good reviews we saw here, and were very disappointed. We got the ground-floor apartment (apartment #1 and #2), which according to the desk clerk, they have had for at least 5 years. We were surprised at that because it is not at all like anything we read here.

We had four people in the party, my wife and me, and our two children. The ground-floor unit, which is accessible through their inner court yard, has two rooms (labeled apartment 1 and apartment 2 after you pass through the unit's door--which is simply labeled "Hotel Kima"). Room 1 has a king-size bed composed of two twin mattresses. Room 2 has the same plus a day bed, so the unit can theoretically sleep 5 people. I said theoretically because we ended up all piling up into one bed, cramped as that was. Room 1 is unusable at night. It has an exposed sewer pipe on the ceiling that was probably the result of an earlier repair, and every time anyone on the upper floors flushes or uses their sink, the water would rush down the pipe really loudly and wake you up. However, it's the room with the limited Wi-Fi connection (really weak and fades in and out, but at least still better than room 2, which does not see any Wi-Fi at all).

The kitchen sink is dirty and heavily oxidized. The shower ceiling has mold/mildew. The base of the shower has a broken and unrepaired tile. There are non-working lights in the bedroom, and thrown-together fixtures (i.e., the lamp shade wasn't meant for the lamp, so hangs on haphazardly), and an exposed electrical outlet (i.e., it was not attached to the wall, but hangs from the hole in the wall, with exposed electrical wires behind it).

We were glad to finally check out of the hotel and leave. I would have given this hotel a one-star rating, if not for the decent breakfasts and the very helpful desk clerk.

First stayed here 5 years ago and have been coming back to stay twice a year ever since clean and tidy rooms good basic breakfast great location ideal for exploring Berlin the staff on reception are very very helpful nothings to much trouble we found more places to go and more about Berlin by chatting to the staff at reception than any guide book if you want to stay in a smart area of Berlin at a reasonable price with clean rooms and helpful staff then this is the hotel for you

I've stayed in this hotel for one week and I can't complain about anything. Its location is good, in a nice neighbourhood with many restaurants nearby and also the public transport is close. We had a big room in the fourth floor, simply furnished, but clean and quiet. In my opinion the breakfast was really rich (maybe the coffee could be better). Staff was ok, especially nice was the receptionist who helped us a lot with orientation in Berlin.
If I travel to Berlin again, I'll probably book the same hotel.

The building it's quite old, the hotel it's ok good according to the price. I loved the area. Well connected, close to the shopping area, restaurants or public transport. The staff was nice and very helpfull.
Breakfast it's very basic, the room was clean and the bathroom was also nice and clean.
I just didn't liked the door locks, I thing they should get a new security door system.

Our trip began in Berlin, so we spent the first three nights here. This hotel was very easy to get to from the airport on the regular bus ( #109 I think). The hotel is less than two blocks from where you get off the bus. The man at the reception was extremely helpful. Answered all of our questions and provided maps and transport info and recommended where to eat in the area. Very easy to catch the bus to venture into the city and tour around. Our room was large and clean. We were on the floor where the breakfast room was located and we did hear a little noise from other guests, as they came and went. Breakfast was fine with a lot of variety.

Hotel KIMA is an interesting combination of "almost". Location is convenient to Ku-damm, but a long walk from the main attractions (KaWaDe) at the other "end" of the Ku-damm, and a good 15 minutes walk to the nearest stop on the Hop-on, Hop-off sightseeing bus. The entrance-way is very unwelcoming at night.

The room was spacious but sparse and dreary, the bathroom was adequate but toilet made odd, long noises whenever it was flushed. No plug for the sink, tiny soap. The room was clean, but the curtains were coming off their hooks and didn't close. Breakfast was good and daily German newspapers were available. Breakfast room staff were efficient but certainly not friendly. Reception staff ranged from helpful to indifferent.

Our four-night stay was all right, but we would look for something else if/when we visit Berlin again. Given the range of hotels and other accommodation available, even at budget prices, I'd think we'd read through more Trip Advisor reviews and try something else.

Room Tip: Our room was on the 4th floor facing the front and near the breakfast room, but double doors kept it...

I stayed in the hotel for one night (travelling solo).
it was written in previous review the location is good. Particularly because of lot of eateries and food shops in the vicinity (including a wine shop, wow!). Not good for shopping since prices in Ku-damm start from 500EUR for any simple item yet more frequently they are close to 1000EUR.
Very, very good restaurant in the building opposite to the hotel ("Kina" or something like that).
I did not order breakfast so cannot say anything about it. Now the essential:
1) the hotel is spotless clean
2) the hotel is very basic and outdated. It is a pension, like a place where you got keys from a modest apartment. Reception works till 8:00PM. Then, you have keys from building's entry (yes), hotel's entry (on the 2nd floor) and your room. Feel free!
3) The staff is friendly and well trained
4) Rooms are small.
5) Building's staircase and elevator are really unusual and stylish. I made photos

Conclusion: it is not a regular hotel, it is the convenient place to stay for one-two nights. With excellent breakfasts served in that restaurant on the opposite side of the street (I recommend the "oriental" breakfast). Kima it is clean, cheap and resides in 20 minutes from Brandenburg gate.
