“Nice hotel - average staff and resonable service”
Reviewed March 31, 2013

We stayed with the family for 2 nights at the end of March. The hotel is typical Novotel - Clean, functional, modern and reasonably priced rooms.

Our stay would have been a lot more enjoyable (maybe 4 star) if it wasn't´t for the following:

- Friday night dinner, we waited for 1 1/2 hours for a simple dinner with the family. We arrived at a not too busy restaurant at 8:15pm, two of our children got their food, desert and were already in bed before my son and our food was ready to be served as 9:45pm - which is a little disappointing....

During this time we managed to eat a bowel of soup and two scallops between us. I was informed after a complaint that the cooker was broken - why were we not told this before, we could have eaten elsewhere....

To top this our waitress was rude, untrained, no idea what customer services is and I´m not sure whether she had opened a bottle of wine correctly in her life (this IS meant to be a 4* Hotel).....

- Saturday Morning Breakfast: we were herded into a rather large informal conference room for a buffet style breakfast. Even though we were there for 8am, a lot of the buffet was gone and not restocked.

The food was pretty average - if you´ve stayed at a Euro Disney hotel you can get the picture.

In comparison, then Sunday morning we managed to get a table in the normal restaurant - the
buffet food was a lot better, more choice - I don't understand why the hotel would not let us eat here the day before??

- Saturday Evening a large group of noisy kids turned up and were running up and down the corridor until at least midnight...

Finally we got some peace then approx 1am one of the lovely guests set off the fire alarm. We were evacuated from the hotel at night to a cold Berlin evening - quite a shock for the kids and wife for a false alarm.

No apology from the hotel, no refund for the extra large gins consumed to calm the nerves and no explanation from the management (word of mouth via the bar staff informed us what had happened).

Overall a very unpleasant experience not managed professionally. I just hope the poor lady rushed to hospital due to shock gets over this experience quickly.

To summarise the hotel:

Good:

- Nice rooms / Nice Hotel Decor + Clean / Good Price / Good Location

Poor:

- Waitress Staff / Service / Mixed Breakfast / Large Noisy Group of Kids / Cattle Like Breakfast / Evening Meal

Room Tip: Book with breakfast - its not worth the 19 Euros per head

I stayed at the Novotel with my family. We arrived very early in the morning (4am) due to a delayed flight and found the staff helpful and friendly. All the staff we spoke to had excellent English.

The family room we had was adequate in size, however, it was clean and had good facilities. Our bedroom faced the railway line, however, we were not disturbed by this, and could not hear any noise. The beds were comfortable. We did not eat in the restaurant on an evening, however, we did have breakfast at the hotel; for which we paid extra. The breakfast was not cheap, however, Berlin appeared quite expensive to eat out. The breakfast buffet has excellent choice, items were regularly replenished and the staff were friendly and helpful.

The location of the hotel is overall central for Berlin. However, Berlin is a big city and it is quite a walk to other areas such as the Brandenburg Gate of KaDaWe (a huge department store). A sightseeing bus stops right out side the door of the Hotel, and the Tiergarten Station is across the road both ensure quick and easy access to the remainder of the city. (for example Alexanderplatz is only c10 mins away).

In summary I would stay at this Hotel again, if visiting Berlin.

Accor keeps its reputation as usual. The hotel is big, nicely decorated, good staff and very clean! But having a translucent shutter glass door for the shower is not fun. U cant use it when sum1 is asleep. And unless there is an s bahn station right outside the hotel then I'd change my mind on this hotel coz Berlin is huge! Overall I liked it

This hotel absolutely exceeded my expectations. Clean, beautifully decorated, and staffed by polite, well-trained employees, staying at the Novotel Am Tiergaten is more than value for money. It's a treat. The breakfast buffet is amazing - filled with a multitude of choices including fruit, hot food, pastries, delicious hot chocolate, top quality coffee, and many more. Don't be turned off by the fact that it is located right next to the S-Bahn Tiergarten station. During our entire stay, we heard no sounds of any trains approaching or leaving, giving me the impression that the windows are highly soundproofed. As a matter of fact, the location comes as a bonus. The Tiergarten is surrounded by many tourist attractions. Strolling through the park in different directions will take you to top spots like The Victory Tower, The Reichstag, The Brandenburg Gate, and The Jewish Holocaust Memorial. You're only a stop away from the Zoological Garden station, so access to the Berlin Zoo and Aquarium is very easy. Oh, and it only takes 15 minutes by taxi, each way, to travel to and from the airport. We stayed in a Junior Suite and boy, was it worth it!! The room was huge, with a separate area for my son's bed and desk. I will definitely stay here again on my next trip to the wonderful city of Berlin.

It's a very nice hotel and actually the first time I am giving a five-stars-rating: Large room, everything new and modern, with a consistent style. Excellently equipped (mini-bar, bathroom equipment, work place, TV, and so on). A bit strange: Toilet and bathroom are separate from each other, with some distance.
Best feature: Up to two kids stay for free in the parents' room, and it's still enough place there! (We had our 2 and 4 years old kids with us, who slept very well on their sofa-bed.)
Excellent breakfast, also free for the kids.
In-room internet with extra charge.
Very nice atmosphere and friendly and helpful staff.
Location: No real sightseeing place close by, but still very central between City Center (Brandenburger Gate) and City West (Zoologischer Garten), directly at a S-Bahn-station, and very close to the Technische Universität (Berlin University of Technology).

Room Tip: There are special rooms available which comply with a special environmentally friendly policy.

Stayed here for the second time within a few months. It is a very good property in a decent (though not great) location. If you are willing to use the trains, you can anywhere quickly from the Tiergarten stop across the street. I arrived in the morning and my room was ready which was an added bonus. Will continue to stay here when I am in Berlin,
