I planned my sightseeing tour when visiting new places and of course I had The Column in my guide, but I was going to find Brandenburg Gate and came to square where I saw this beauty! There were some photographers, so I was alone making pictures of it - and it's really worth it!!!

“One of Berlin's iconic sights”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 9, 2013

The victory column is much like the Arc de Triomphe of Paris - it's a beautiful work that you can easily find time to walk by and snap a photo. It's about a 20 minute stroll from the Brandenburg Gate, and you can walk on by and take a photo or take the underground passages to the central circle where the column stands. There is a small fee to go inside and see the historical exhibits and climb the column. In the evening, the column is lit up beautifully and is great for photos. The underground passages remain open until around 11pm - we had no trouble getting to the base of the column at night, but when we were about to leave, someone had already locked the gates to the underground passages! We had to climb the barrier and make a run across the circle, braving all of the oncoming traffic.

“Wish the weather was better”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 6, 2013

I like how you can walk in the underground tunnels to get to the Tower. It was snowing and very overcast so we did not go up to get a better view. It looked nice, and I think it would of been worth the view, but due to inclement weather, it was not possible for us.

“More beautiful up close & a good work out!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 18, 2013

From a distance it definitely catches your eye but up close this magnificent sight really does impress! Prepare yourself for a good work out as the amount of stairs to get to the top are a killer!

Although I would not recommend for family's with small children unless you can carry them all the way to the top (which I say good luck!), also please take the under ground stairs and don't be silly by running across the road like some tourists.

“The symbolic image of Berlin”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 16, 2013

Next to the Brandenburg Gate, there is no better known iconical sight in Berlin than the Siegessaule.

Waking up with a notable hangover (caused by news of a death in the family the night before), I walked down one of the four boulevards in glorious winter morning sunshine, listening to the obvious track by U2.

To say that the simple beauty of the Siegessaule lifted my spirits at a very difficult time for me is no understatement.

Once over the road to the site itself, it was a hangover-busting 585 steps up to the top - but that wasn't even a consideration. The view of the Tiergarten from the summit was wondrous.

A must do.
