“Perfect if not for their lumpy pillows”
Reviewed June 2, 2014

LOCATION
Nothing beats InterCity Berlin Hbf's location, it's just a few meters walk from the Berlin Hbf (just behind Meininger and sister hotel Steigenberger). The Reichstag, Soviet War Memorial in Tiergarten and the Brandenburg Gate are all within a 15 minute walk. Of course, being near the main station, transport connections to wherever you want in Berlin are no problem, especially with their FREE Berlin transport pass (included in your package). It's valid in ANY Berlin S-Bahn, U-Bahn, Metro (tram) and buses. It's perfect if you're in Berlin just to see the major sites or travelling with your family (the Natural History Museum is only a kilometer away, the Zoo is a short S-Bahn ride). If you're in Berlin to party, the place is pretty much dead in the night (which is good for my taste). There are also bikes you can rent for 12 euros a day.

ROOMS
Rooms are fairly large and since it's a new hotel (according to the leaflet, they just opened in October 2013), the fixtures are modern and of contemporary design. There's a flat screen TV with Sky broadcasts and the bathroom, though small and without a bathtub, is well-designed and doesn't feel cramped. Despite being beside the train tracks, the windows are soundproofed and you hardly hear the noise outside. Rooms have free Wi-Fi at 256kbps. If you need faster bandwidth, you have to pay. However, if all you'll do is check your email, post your Berlin pics on Facebook / Instagram or tweet that you ate currywurst, the free WiFi is more than enough.
The biggest letdown however is their bed. The mattress, for a new hotel, feels worn out and the pillows are thin and lumpy. I do hope they change it since this is the only negative for this hotel though it's quite bearable. Also, they don't supply dental kits, so bring your own.

DINING
I didn't avail of their breakfast, which costs 13 euros. Not a problem since Berlin Hbf is like a train station inside a mall. There are a lot of cheap and mid-range dining options that are open early and closes late. There's even a Kaiser supermarket below the station so you can buy your bread and other personal items there.

SERVICE
The staff were very efficient and friendly. I had no problems checking-in (using Booking.com) and was promptly given my roomkey even if it was before 2PM. Checking out was also hassle-free.

All in all, I would definitely stay here again and recommend this hotel to my friends, despite the pillows. The pros of this hotel more than outweighs the only negative.

Stayed here for 4 nights on a recent holiday to Berlin. Chose the hotel due to proximity to the main train station and reviews on here. The hotel was a short 2 minute walk from the main train station and upon check in we were given free travel card for all public transportation around the city, which we used to get to the main attractions (although the major ones such as the Brandenburg Tor and Reistag are within walking distance).

The hotel met all expectations apart from 2 minor let downs - 1. No kettle in the room, or provision of a kettle on request (though you can get hot water from the bar). 2. Air Con broke on the 3rd day and was pumping hot air into the room. Not great when it is 26C outside even at night and the windows only open a small amount. Calls to the reception were met with apologies that there are no maintenance staff on the weekend, though we could change rooms if we wanted. As we only had one more night we decided to stay put and opened the room door to get a through breeze.

Breakfast is an extra $13/day but was very good and had plenty to choose from. Internet is included in room rate for a basic speed or you can pay to get a faster speed if required - we had no issues with the free service.

Would stay again next time I am in Berlin.

We stayed at InterCity hotel for our last night in the city. This hotel is very close to the main train station and very convenient . Bus TXL takes you to Tegel airport.

We were able to get a early check-in which is good. The room size is good 2 people in a room does not feel tight. Bed is comfortable. Flat screen TV. Bathroom is clean, functional, and good lighting. I like the fact it has counter space in the bathroom. Good water pressure and nice hot water. It also has tissue paper! I know, this is minor, but a lot of hotel that we stayed, only provides toilet paper and no tissue paper. Free Wi-Fi and we were able to use the internet to check emails without problems. Also, upon check in, they gave us 2 bus pass/card which allows unlimited public transportation.

The only complaint that I have is there is a fee to use computer at the lobby. We want to print our boarding pass, but since there is a fee to use computer in the lobby, we decided not to bother with it.

All in all, I enjoyed our short stay here.

Don't stay here if you like Ac and wifi. The wifi is so slow it takes 45 min to watch a standard definition YouTube video. Think they throttle the website. The AC is throttle as well. If it's 20 degrees outside you get no AC inside despite what the temperature inside might br. My first though was to open the window, but it doesn't open wide enough for a breeze. So if you are like me and like it slightly colder than some people you won't like it here. Also you probably don't want to leave window open over night anyway due to the noise of the train station next door. Tried to see if staff could help us out, but they looked at us like we were stupid for not understanding how the AC works. Tried 3 different employees so it wasn't just one guy. We were also super polite. We're Canadian afterall.

We stayed in December 2013 while visiting the Christmas markets. Hotel is opened in October 2013, few months before we arrived. We think it is a nice new hotel. You´ll get a free travel card to use during your stay which is very nice. Berlin main train station is next to the hotel so you can get easily where ever you wish and trains leave almost every 10 minute. Good currywurst place in the station and also many shops. Hotel staff were not that friendly but everything went good tough.

The headline could mean that this hotel is only for transit as it is conveniently located relative to all communications, but I think it could just as well be convenient for travellers wanting to explore the city. However, the location more or less at the central train station in a rather sterile surrounding where other hotels and buildings are being constructed right now may not be so charming if one want to live in a more hospitable neighbourhood in Berlin. The regular checkpoints for a business hotel are all very good, easy and friendly check-in and -out, comfortable rooms (just adequate space), nice bathroom facilities, TV and minibar, free wifi (works well), good restaurant and bar etc. Breakfast is excellent and price not too steep. I got the impression that the hotel is a budget hotel in the Steigenberger chain, and if you want more luxury there is another Steigenberger hotel in front of the InterCity Hotel. My only little concern is that the (single) beds are a bit narrow, but that does not affect my total rating.

Room Tip: The corridors are long, so if you carry much luggage ask for a room not too far from the elevators.

The hotel is just a few minutes walk from the Hauptbahnhof making it very convenient. Lots of shops and eateries at the station. It was easy to visit attractions in Berlin by taking the S/U-Bahns around from the Hauptbahnhof. The hotel also provides a free travelcard during your stay so all the rides in the S/U-Bahns and buses were free making it very worth it. The travelcard also allowed trips to zone C meaning that trips to Potsdam and buses/trams in Potsdam were covered as well. The rooms of the hotel were clean and comfortable. The size was reasonable. There was free wifi as well. This hotel is a good base for touring Berlin.
