It is not Italian, it is European. Almost German.
For me Italian restaurant is the restaurant where Italian food served in Italian manner (theatrical, expressive way) in Italian interior. Restaurant Gabriele has none of it, save wines from Italy.
Some figures first:
- set food menu (Menu Gabriele) - 89 Euro per person;
- set wine menu ( Weinbegleitung Menu) - 59 Euro per person;
Food itself was quite good, but it was not Italian neither in taste, nor in style. I would call it European. If the same set menu was served in "French" or "Austrian" or "German" it would be "french", "austrian" or "german" respectively.
Wines are not bad, especially if you ask the bottle to be opened in front of you, so you could have "fresh" wine. Amarone was wonderful (not included in the set wine menu).
Service. Local youngsters in Gabriele are far cry from Italian "maestros" of service. Italian service is a theater, a show, an entertainment. You will see nothing of it in Gabriele.
Interior design. There is no design at all. If someone removes the table clothes, this place becomes an office. Bring the table clothes back and this place becomes American steakhouse or French "bistrot".
I would not recommend this place to anyone who is looking for real Italian restaurant.
