“Super Location, decor and breakfast !”
Reviewed June 3, 2013

We just came back from our trip to Berlin and we stayed at this beautiful brand new hotel in der Mitte. The location is just perfect. You can do every points of interest by foot are by bycicle ( you can rent them in the hotel and they are right in front of it) The whole place is lovely decorated and give a cosy warm feeling. The rooms are small but well appointed with a small bathroom but a good size shower. The breakfast cost 13 euro's and is worth every penny: different kind of rolls and bread, a large choice of meat, cheese even salmon, freshly made orange juice ( several other juices) home made marmelade freshly made fruitsalat several kinds of tea (the english way) coffee the way you prefer (capuccino, latte machiatto, mocca etc..) freshly prepared wafels, pancakes and eggs to your preference in short a 5 star breakfast! There is also a inner patio and a terrace in front of the hotel so you can sit outside. The staff is very friendly and well trained. And all this you can have for a very good price; let say a 4 star experience for a 3 star price.
On our next trip to Berlin we will definitely stay here again. A real bijou!

Am seriously pleased as punch to have found Berlin's most charming boutique hotel! I can't praise the brand new Monbijou hotel highly enough, for 3 main reasons:

(1) its fantastic central location (2) its uniquely laid-back chic decor (a British architect/designer apparently), and (3) astonishingly good value: 4- to 5-star decor at 3-star prices and very affordable dining menus too.

Open only 3 weeks ago, this is going to be one to watch... the 101-roomed hotel was already at full occupancy when I stayed last weekend, and I suspect will get booked up months in advance once word catches on!

The MonBijou has countless feathers in its cap: Two of them being a supercool brasserie/open-kitchen restaurant (where you can watch chefs freshly prepare your meal; menus were varied and reasonable) and an atmospheric bar whose doors open out on to a private, candle-lit courtyard.
It's literally seconds from the vibrant if touristy Hakescher Markt, Mitte district's uber-cool galleries and boutique shops, the park-lined waterfront, and most conveniently of all, the hotel's 5-minute (on foot) proximity from Museum Island. Wunderbar!

The MonBijou's wow-factor roofterrace (complete with private events/meeting room) and its rather lovely 'corner suites' benefit from views of Berlin's famous Dome and lofty TV tower too - that roofterrace will surely entice fashion magazine photoshoots as a super-cool location...

On the downside, standard rooms are on the tiny side (although they have lovely clean, modern wooden floorboards and tasteful taupe colour schemes). Plus the property's literally beside a tram stop (although rooms are not on this same side).

But to be frank, when you see the lobby lounge's mesmeric logfire in the cool New York-style library-esque living room, you're not going to want to stay in your room anyway...except perhaps to luxuriate in your ensuite's fab Japanese-style walk-in power shower with awesome adaptable massage settings!

One thing that surprised me about Berlin was the gruffness, not to mention outright moody rudeness, of its service levels (particularly by female waitresses and shop attendants I noted). But I found the staff here at the hotel pretty obliging.

The other thing that shocked me about Berlin was the sheer amount of graffiti scrawled over (and even inside) some buildings. So it's a bold move on the part of the hotel to paint the outside of the hotel in pristeen white...I hope for its sake that the MonBijou doesn't succumb to it too, and has buckets of white paint at the ready!

It's early days for the hotel, but I've stayed in enough great hotels around the world to spot a 'hidden' treasure when I experience one ('Bijou' = 'treasure' in French). Believe me, the MonBijou won't remain hidden for long! - I see it proving so popular in the months to come that you won't get a room here for love nor money, as the saying goes. My advice is to book a stay here well in advance to avoid disappointment!! I would definitely return to this hotel on a future trip to Berlin - rare, special finds like this need to be treasured.

Room Tip: Upgrade to a dome-view Corner suite on an upper floor if you can afford to. The suite with toile-de...

I stayed here recently and had a fantastic experience. The hotel is new and is really nicely decorated. Lovely places to sit outside and enjoy some food or a drink. The rooms were small, but well decorated. The bed was actually 2 twin beds on a king-size frame so there is a divide down the middle which was a little annoying. There also isn't a fan in the bathroom so it gets very steamy in there so you need to prop the door open after a shower. The location couldn't be beat though for what we were looking for and the hotel staff were very pleasant.

I know some people were complaining about on-going work at the hotel but I didn't really see any signs of this. It was also probably the most affordable place we found, a real steal for the location! I would not hesitate to stay at this hotel again.

The hotel is in the centre of Mitte so I was able to walk to all my points of interest - Berliner Dom, Museum Island, Alexander Platz, Friedrichstrasse. The rooms are comfortable, and the lounge was cozy. Excellent service from a well-trained staff.

Room Tip: Ask for a corner suite
