As a teen-aged wannabe artist whose aesthetics blossomed after seeing Kirchener's work in mere reproductions (so long ago!), I had to see this museum, and was very glad I did. The Emil Nolde Museum off the Gendarmemarkt had a thematic show we found pretty weak (though Nolde is a giant), but the Brücke had major holdings on view: Kirchener, Heckel, Otto Müller, first-rate Noldes, many Karl Schmitt-Rotluffs and others. Beautifully displayed and lit in this little jewel of a museum.

The Brucke was one of the highlights of our trip to Berlin. As others have noted the collection is small, but it is stunning. The use of color by the German Abstract Expressionists represented along with great museum lighting makes this a must see. Don't be intimidated by the distance you need to travel. Switching to a bus is as easy as seeing which end of the terminal the word "bus" is listed and then looking near the intersection for the bus signs. Also, the neighborhood around the Brucke is quite beautiful.

The Brücke Museus is small in size, but great in quality, extreme almost. Our visit coincided with "Paintings and Sculptures of Brücke" exhibition, offering a great selection of works by Heckel, Kirchner, Schmidt-Rottluff, and others.

The museum is located in wonderful surrounding, rather easily acceccible by bus from city centre: less than half an hour with M29 from Zoo plus some 10-minute walk if you don't want the transfer to another bus (115) for the rest of the trip.

Thoroughly enjoyed this smallish museum. Well worth it if you enjoy the type of art on offer (German Expressionism). If you are based in the centre it is a little bit of a trek, however, the surrounding area is lovely so lots to see when you come out this way. I hired a bike which certainly made things easier. Sign said it was about 15k to City centre.

The Brücke Museum celebrates artists from the group of the same name who were active both before and after WWI. Ask at your hotel how to get there by bus, or use the BVG site to find the connections (BVG is the on-line site for public transportation in Berlin and it has English). The surroundings are lush and green and it's part of Berlin most tourists do not see. The museum is small and the artwork is stunning. Great gift shop but if I recall, no cafe. Well worth the trip out. If you are not sure Expressionism is your thing, check out the museum's website.
