“GROTESQUE but IMPRRESSIVE”
Reviewed August 26, 2012

Occupying a vast acreage in Treptower Park, on the eastern end of the City, along the river Spree, this monument and the surrounding dedicated massive commemorative sculptures and huge marble arches on each side, commemorate the Soviet soldiers, who died in Germany during WWII. The tranquility of the place is impressive, as are photo and other displays of the construction of this site, built at the time of greatest poverty imposed by the Soviets on East Berliners.

“Beautiful”
Reviewed August 22, 2012

Really worth a visit, it is very striking and very moving and an apt memorial to remember all those who died. It is very close to the Brandenburg Gate and very quiet and peaceful allowing time for reflection. The marble from Hitler's HQ was used in the building of this particular Soviet memorial.

“Free, simple and near”
Reviewed August 16, 2012

A very sober memorial to the USSR soldiers. There are some tanks and cannons on the side of the monument. It's in the Tiergarten very near the Bundestag and the Brandenburg Gate. You can check it also when you are going or coming of the Victory Column.

“Fitting memorial”
Reviewed July 28, 2012

This memorial is a fitting tribute to the sacrifices made by the Russians during the battle for Berlin. The two tanks that act as guardians still bear some of the scars of the battle. 80,000 soldiers died in that battle and several thousand of them are buried here.

This, and the site at Treptower park really allows you to take an opportunity to reflect upon what happened here. It’s too easy in the post cold war epoch to forget that the Russians made huge sacrifices to end the war. Ignoring the role Stalin played in initiating it; individual Russians laid down their lives to end the Nazi ideal.

There is a small museum worth visiting as well.

“An interesting find”
Reviewed July 4, 2012

We came across this by accident. Soviet memorial near Brandebgurg Gate commemorating the 300,000 red army soldiers who died in World War 2 in the struggle to liberate Berlin. Well worth looking out for and spending a little time here.
