This time our destination was Berlin. Here we can appreciate the sites and monuments related to the history of this city and which depict successively the State of Brandenburg, the Kingdom of Prussia, the German Empire, the First World War, the Weimar Republic, the Nazi rule, the Second World War, the division of the city and, finally, the German reunification. It's an open book of history that includes unforgettable episodes for all of humanity.
We chose the Berlin Marriott Hotel for our five night stay, which took place at the end of October. This hotel is located on the Potsdamer Platz, within walking distance of the city's main attractions, a 30-minute taxi ride from Schonefeld International Airport (fee of € 40, one way) and a one-hour metro ride, (fee of € 3.40, one way), with the advantage of having a subway station less than 1 minute from the hotel. The property seemed to have the appearance of just another Marriott hotel, with nothing particular to point out. The check in was flawless. As a Ptatinum member we were upgraded to an executive room (# 1055), located on the top floor, but with no view. Upon arrival, there was a small welcome amenitie. The room was renovated, but unfortunately had a strange smell, somewhat unpleasant. It had a bed next to a desk, unhappily leaning against it, with only one bedside table on the other side, resulting in a cluttered furniture arrangement. The existing wardrobe was minimal and we could hang only four pieces of clothing that were crumpled. The air conditioning worked flawlessly, allowing for proper temperature. The bed allowed for a satisfactory quality of sleep. The bathroom had a good shower but no tub. Exhaustion from the bathroom worked intermittently, only for periods, making, sometimes, bathroom odors persistent and unpleasant. The room had mini bar. There were complimentary coffee and tea replenished daily. The water was replenished only once. The daily housekeeping service was efficient, but the turndown service did not exist for a few days. We had breakfast in the main restaurant. We considered the buffet provided with a good variety of items. The restaurant, however, was often crowded, with extra tables for the space available, preventing a comfortable passage between them. The executive lounge, we had access to, is a pleasant place to rest and offers a good presentation of food and drinks, with special emphasis on the evening hors d 'oeuvres, that replace a dinner if you want, and which we consider to be the highlight of the hotel. Both the restaurant staff, at breakfast, and the executive lounge staff provided ineffective and not attentive service, not meeting guests' needs, let alone anticipating their requests. Even, for example, there was once in the main restaurant, at breakfast, that we had no table available and we asked an waitress to lift the dishes on a table so we could sit down. In fact, the dirty dishes were removed by her, but the table had to be cleaned by us and we went, ourselves, to get the clean dishies, the cutlery, the cups, the napkins and the coffee pot.
In short, although we have not considered this hotel a must, we feel it has enough potential to better satisfy guests if a few points are corrected. It is probably a good choice to stay in Berlin, taking into account the quality / price ratio offered. However, we should point out that the rate we paid in full 5 months earlier on "Advance Purchase" was not perhaps the best option. We noticed in the week before our stay that prices had dropped compared to that we had paid. These are the risks of paying in advance: sometimes we win, but sometimes we lose!...

Dear jorgeeantonio,

Let me thank you for being a valued Marriott Rewards Platinum Elite Member and for taking the time to tell us about your stay at the Berlin Marriott Hotel as well as the positive remarks received.

I am very sorry to read that you did not enjoy your stay with us very much, due to unimpressive experiences with our staff at the Restaurant and the Executive Lounge.
I have shared your feedback with the entire team, especially with our Restaurant Manager, to avoid such behavior in the future.

Dear jorgeeantonio, I remain in the hope that you will give us a second chance to welcome you back at our property to persuade you of our service and professionalism.

With best regards,

Alexandra Drobig

Great rooms, bed and shower.... more important, the receptionists (Marina and Victoria) were very welcoming and helpful. The room was prepared in advance and a tray of macarons and strawberries awaited me in my room. There was also a personalized letter from management welcoming me as well as a gift postcard of Berlin.

The Hotel is very close (walking distance) to the Berlin Passage (shopping centre), and centrally located.

The room facilities are excellent and the hotel is relatively close to the airport. I will definitely use this hotel again.

Room Tip: hotel is very central.... close to Berlin Mall (walking distance)

I stayed with them for three nights as I was having an annual business meeting with my company.
The highlight is definitely the size of the room (huge for a regular room) and the walk-in shower. Kudos for that!
Additional to that I’ve always enjoyed bfast (not the most diverse I’ve ever seen but good quality food), the Catwalk bar (very intimate, good for small group conversations), the staff (very professional and very helpful and friendly making you feel welcome at every point during the stay)
If you are interested in organizing an event with them maybe I can mention that the entire organization went very well - from the coziness of the meeting room (colors, chairs etc), to food during the breaks and lunch, technical support and so on. Definitely a good pick!

Overall - a seamless, enjoyable experience

One important note - if you plan to use parking you need to remember that the entrance is not in front of the hotel but on the side on the main street between Subway and Starbucks. It is written Marriott parking but small font and easy to miss if you are driving.

We stayed here as part of a family trip in August 2017. The location is spot on and close to the underground station. We had two rooms, one for us and one for the kids, so had lost of space. We took one of the junior suites situated in the corner of the hotel and it was very spacious and nicely appointed.

The gym and pool were of a high quality and we ventured down there every day. Handy too for slow jogging in the Tiergarten just a couple of hundred yards from the hotel.

Breakfast was excellent with lots of choice.

Perhaps the best element was access to the executive lounge for snacks, light meals and drinks. Much easier to drop by there in the evening than to try and get consensus on where everyone would like to eat.

This hotel lies at the expensive end of the scale. The executive lounge is a premium feature too. But absolutely worth it.

Berlin is a great city. And this is an excellent hotel.
