Owner description: The German Historical Museum presents itself in two buildings: In the unique Baroque Zeughaus and the neighbouring modern exhibition hall designed by the Chinese-American architect Ioeh Minh Pei. The 300-year old Zeughaus is one of the most important buildings of the Baroque period in Berlin and the oldest buildings at the boulevard Unter den Linden. In 2006 the Permanent Exhibition “German History in Images and Artefacts” was inaugurated here; it showcases 2000 years of eventful and enthralling German history as seen within its European context. 8000 selected objects from the extensive collections of the German Historical Museum furnish valuable evidence of history and reveal, on a surface area of 8000 square meters, a fascinating and vivid picture of the past. Supplementing the Permanent Exhibition are specialized temporary exhibitions displayed in the fascinating exhibition building designed by I.M. Pei. The spacious new structure with its glass and steel entrance lobby and distinctive winding staircase was opened in 2003. Definitive events and facets of German history are presented in a variety of special exhibitions on the four floors of the new building.

“Best historical museum I know”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 4, 2013

Took party of students on our first day - we were pretty tired. I thought it was the best historical museum I've visited. Only had time for the ground floor exhibition on Germany since 1918. Very excited to see exhibits about the 1918 Revolution, but lots of other interesting material. I must return.

“Incredible amount of information”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 3, 2013

This is one of the biggest museums I've been too.
It took me 4 hours to go through with an audio guide, and I did NOT stop at all the stops.
It is very informative and very interesting, missing no part of the rich history of Germany along the way with different displays from pictures to weapons and all in between.
Well worth the visit and the fee.
Bring your student ID is will get you a discount!
Be sure to free a few hours for this if you're into this kind of museum.

“Germany from the stone age to the modern era.”

This is a serious history museum. We spent all day. I would recommend that you pick the time you are most interested in and start there. then go back and follow the exhibits chronologically.

“I could spend ALL day here!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 2, 2013

I could have walked around ALL day... this has got to be one of the BEST museums in the WORLD. Just love how it shows the ENTIRE German history from about 100AD until today. You definitely need to give yourself close to a day in here if you want to take in EVERYTHING.
Entry was only 4euro (8 for adults) and if your under 18 its FREE. I loved it and if I had more time in Berlin would probably go again.
Loved it.

“Huge collection”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 2, 2013 via mobile

This museum has a huge and informative collection of stuff from almost 2000 year period. Be sure you have enough time. We spent there about 6 hours. Highly recommended! We also visited the jewish museum but this one was far superior. There is also a nice cafe restaurant where you can restore your energy before entering the downstairs collection.
