Owner description: The German Historical Museum presents itself in two buildings: In the unique Baroque Zeughaus and the neighbouring modern exhibition hall designed by the Chinese-American architect Ioeh Minh Pei. The 300-year old Zeughaus is one of the most important buildings of the Baroque period in Berlin and the oldest buildings at the boulevard Unter den Linden. In 2006 the Permanent Exhibition “German History in Images and Artefacts” was inaugurated here; it showcases 2000 years of eventful and enthralling German history as seen within its European context. 8000 selected objects from the extensive collections of the German Historical Museum furnish valuable evidence of history and reveal, on a surface area of 8000 square meters, a fascinating and vivid picture of the past. Supplementing the Permanent Exhibition are specialized temporary exhibitions displayed in the fascinating exhibition building designed by I.M. Pei. The spacious new structure with its glass and steel entrance lobby and distinctive winding staircase was opened in 2003. Definitive events and facets of German history are presented in a variety of special exhibitions on the four floors of the new building.

What a fantastic Museum in the heart of Berlin. The greatest problem is that there is just so much to see and take in. To do it any justice it needs two or three days of short visits to see everything which it has to offer. The top floor is German history up until 1918 and the downstairs everything since - if you are pressed for time, work out what really interests you and go to see that. The museum is really fantastic - make time in your plans to see it.

Great museum. I wish I had time for more. We were able to go from WWI to the end in about 2 hours, so give yourself plenty of time if you like to read everything, like I do !

An excellent museum with a rather grand café. The section on Luther was fascinating, as was the collection relating to the battle of Waterloo. A veritable historical feast!

If you are one that is interested in German History, this museum is somewhere you mst go. The museum houses a timeline of German History in it's two floors. word of caution though, please start at the correct spot! I actually started from the 'end' which is modern times... so I was going back through time.

Get a audio guide to help you along but this place has enough information in English to keep you occupied for half a day.

There is so much here that both myself and my friends who went on separate occasions failed to see the whole exhibition. Really good to see either in great detail or a fleeting glance.
