Owner description: In the 1970s, Alexanderplatz became an experiment in socialist urban aesthetics. The square is the home to the World Time Clock, a continually rotating installation that shows the time around the globe and Hermann Henselmann’s Haus des Lehrers.

I got to the square and thought I was missing something. I think the best thing that can be said about this place is that it is central. It's gritty but not in a good way. Potsdam Platz much nicer.

Plenty of bars and food stalls , loads of outdoor seating .Shops around the perimeter , carousel and free fall drop from one of the higher buildings. Right on tram line and U+S Bahn lines so easily accesible .

Free walk on and off trolley, proximity to museums, lower cost hotels, and some vestiges of Soviet Era architecture make this my home away from home when in Berlin. Shopping, many great restaurants - including Wolfgang Puck, and Munich Beergarden- and bars including street food. World class electronics shopping, direct to airport very frequent bus and trains. Be sure to take the Tegal Express bus if time is tight, but the many stops give a scenic and cheap way to sight-see when arriving and departing. Octoberfest is celebrated in the square here in October.
