We stayed in the Marlene Room in The Loft for 4 days in September 2012. Not only was the room clean and comfy, but Sam and Mel were wonderful to us. Let me explain...It is an apartment building without a doorman and requires keys to gain entry. They helped us coordinate our arrival with Eric and Rocio. Our flight from the US to Berlin was delayed and we had no way to speak to anyone until we arrived. Despite the changes, Rocio met us on time at the apartment with a smile! The airline also lost our luggage and without a cell phone, Rocio let us give them her number. She met the delivery service the next day at the apartment so we would not miss any of our precious travel time in Berlin. Again, she did this gladly!
As far as the apartment unit, it is a small efficiency with a great, comfortable bed, nice linens, and very clean. The view was fabulous. We were able to hear the trains passing by, however our free white noise iphone app took care of everything. The location was central so every angle of the city was easily accessible.
Just to impress us even more, I realized after traveling to another country that I left a favorite belt of mine in the unit. I emailed Sam and she responded promptly and sent it back to me here in the US!
Our Berlin experience could have been easily ruined by our late, unexpected arrival time or even dealing with our lost luggage, but everyone was so great to us! Thank you Sam and Mel! We loved the apartment, but are even more grateful for working with such wonderful Berliners! We highly recommend this space!
- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- The Loft Berlin offers two unique studio apartments located in Hackerschermarkt, Mitte - right in the center of East Berlin. With panoramic views from the 21st floor you can look out over what was formerly the GDR, nearly all the way to Moscow, and get a feel of what life was like while the wall was still up. The building is occupied by an eclectic mix of hipster locals and former GDR citizens, and was built in 1967 for the highest members of the GDR government. Rosa: Rosa is our premium room named after the philosopher and humanist Rosa Luxemburg who fought for working class rights on the streets below during the first world war. With a kitchen and raised seating platform, this 25 sq. m studio is extremely comfortable for a short or long visit to explore this fascinating city which has acted as a melting pot for idealism and political extremes for over a century. Marlene: This 20 sq.m boutique studio is named after arguably the most glamorous woman to emerge from Berlin in the past century, Marlene Dietrich, a true Berliner. With laquered exposed concrete walls and chandeliers, Marlene captures the essence and extravagance of the roaring 1920s cabaret era with a twist of shabby chic. The Loft Berlin is an ideal location for couples coming to visit for a short break or even the soloist looking for an interesting and unique experience in this vibrant and edgy city. Situated directly next to Hackerscher Markt station and a 5 minute walk from Alexanderplatz station. The Loft Berlin is right in the middle of it all. You can see the TV Tower from the window as it is just across the street and you are also walking distance to all the main tourist attractions such as Museum Island, Alexanderplatz, Unter Den Linden and the lively cafe culture of Mitte. There are dozens of bus, tram and train links to all parts of Berlin right outside the front door.
