We spent a week in this hotel in Feb 09. The hotel was very easy to find with signage pointing you in the correct location once you get out of the U-Bahn. Everything in this hotel was what I have come to expect from the Novotel brand. Efficient, comfortable, modern and polished.

Staff were OK - helpful without being outgoing. Had no problems with them at all, but I thought they could be a little more friendly. Munich Novotel staff really set a high standard!

Location - this is difficult. The location for walking to all the attractions in Berlin is tops. There is a U-Bahn very close if required. The immediate area around the hotel is bland - which is not always a bad things if you are there on business.

Overall, I would go back here for the central location (to both East and West Berlin sights) and the value.

Was staying here for a week as I was in Berlin for a seminar and spent the weekend looking around. The location is good for people who cannot afford 5 star hotels in the centre. This hotel is less than 5 minutes walk from the train station. Right next to it is a swimming hall. It was close to Alexandreplatz where the tv tower is. Not far from there the west side is within walking distance.

The room was spacious, modern and very clean. Bath tub was a big plus.
The hotel staff mostly left me to my own but were friendly when I needed a cab, room service or information. The breakfast buffet is really nice. Dinner food is great but can be a bit more expensive than eating out in a restaurant.

As it happens I stayed at the Novotel Charenton (technically outside Paris, but accessible with a regular Metro ticket) on Monday 9 February , and in Novotel Berlin Mitte on Friday-Saturday 13-14 February 2009 – inviting comparisons (the more so as I am familiar with Novotel St Pancras, Novotel Tower Hill and Novotel Greenwich in London). As any frequent traveller knows, value for money is poor in these hotels if you pay the appropriately-named “rack-rate” plus the high charge for breakfast. But there are “offers” all year round, and if one is lucky enough to know the dates in advance, many bargains can be had by “shopping around” among the various Accor, Hilton or Holiday Inn offers (to name but the best-known chains – Novotel belongs with Accor).
My verdict: Novotel Berlin Mitte has a competitive advantage over Novotel Charenton in that you get a centrally-located hotel (by the way the best U-Bahn station is Spittelmarkt, not Märkisches Museum – the Accor people could not care less about customers without cars, and their location maps and directions are generally useless for pedestrians) at the cost (I paid 85 euros per night incl. breakfast) of a “suburban” hotel like Novotel Charenton. I remember Tripadvisor reporters complaining about the fact that the WC was separate from the bathroom – the general rule in Novotels. But it is IN the bathroom of the Novotel Berlin Mitte. A bathroom with a combination bath/shower. In the Novotel Charenton, I only had a shower (poor value for what claims to be a four-star hotel). In London, Novotels have both a bath AND a shower. So you never know what to expect when you book – irritatingly for hotels with the same name.
Likewise, some London Novotels have a shaving mirror. Novotel Charenton does not have any, but Novotel Berlin Mitte has them – a “luxury touch” at a rate far inferior to London ones. On the other hand, it did not have the rotating desk typical of Novotels, and it had an old-fashioned TV, compared with the flat screen I got in the much cheaper Ibis Gentilly in Paris two weeks ago.
Interesting international comparisons can be made between the Novotels I have so far patronised in London, Paris, Berlin and Hamburg. Only the London Novotels offer fried eggs – with the best bacon. For some reason the German and French cooks in the Novotels do not know the trick of frying bacon – theirs is far too dry and hard. The choice of meats (notably hot and cold sausage) is best in Novotel Berlin Mitte. The bread rolls are also excellent. If you prefer perfect toasted bread go to London. Novotel Charenton comes a poor third – probably reflecting the fact that the French do not attach much importance to their breakfast. Novotel Charenton would no doubt be best for dinner, on the other hand (though I have never had dinner in any Novotel). But the Novotel Berlin Mitte is not far from the Nicholas Quarter (Nicolaiviertel), where you will have a marvellous sauerkraut downed with a pint of excellent Berlin lager at for instance Zur Rippe restaurant at an unbeatable price. Give a wide berth to Zum Nussbaum, where you will be rudely turned off (even though in perfect English) if coming after 22:00 on a Saturday night.
Conclusion : if what you want is a comfortable room with excellent breakfast and quick access to the city centre by public transport, the Novotel Berlin Mitte is for you. Unreservedly recommended – whatever the reason for your stay in Berlin – provided you can get a bargain package.

Novotel Mitte is located within walking distance of many of the faboulous sites of Berlin. This reasonably priced, modern hotel has spacious, comfortable rooms with tasteful decor. The attention and service we received from the staff was the best I have expereinced in any hotel. There is an excellent selection of various priced restaurants within a 10 minutes walk. A supermarket is located on the ground floor of the next building. It also offers an excellent range of deli products, prepared light meals, alcoholic beverages as well as a pizza outlet and bakery/coffee shop with seating. We found this a much cheaper option than eating breakfast at the hotel. A cheap internet cafe is located on the block behind the hotel. A bus stop, linking you with other tourist sites, is located near the corner. Tickets can be purchased from the hotel desk. The front desk staff speak fluent English. They had excellent advice on tourist information and when one of our travelling companions fell ill they went out of their way to assist with advise regarding medical services and even assisted us in changing our travel arrangements and interpreting.
