“Luxury hotel with great panoramic view of Berlin”
Reviewed September 13, 2013

The Waldorf Astoria Berlin is truly an upscale five star hotel. We have been to Hilton's and Conrads all over the world and Berlin was our fist Waldorf experience. Parking (although expensive) was very clean and safe (camera surveillance). The check in went very smoothly and was of an up level service! As Diamond Hilton members we were upgraded to an King Deluxe Room with view on the 14th floor and it really was a exceptional view of the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church ! We also got two complimentary drinks at the Lang Bar. The room was very upscale and on the table was a small cake for my birthday (nice gesture). We went to the pool area, but the pool itself was closed due to maintenance. We used the jacuzzi, steam bath and sauna instead. Also very upscale! It was only strange that policy does not allowed us to order an alcoholic drink at the pool. For our dinner we asked the concierge for a traditional Italian restaurant. The nice lady told us to go to the Long Bar and she would let us know there what she found. About 10 minutes later she told us we got reservations at Bocca (which was the perfect choice for us). After the restaurant we went back to the room and enjoyed our night in the great bed! Next morning we had great breakfast at Romanisches café (even as Diamond members you do not get breakfast in Waldorf, which is normal Waldorf policy). The Waldorf Berlin really was a great experience and we will come back !

Room Tip: View rooms are truly extraordinary !

If you want a luxe hotel in a great hotel look no further. This WA was completed in Jan 2013 and really is most impressive. Everyone form reception, to bellboy, spa staff to concierge is cool calm and efficient and really most interested in helping their guests achieve what they want. We stayed in a twin room which had double beds which were sumptuously dressed. The bathroom is hi-tech and has everything from hairdryer to tv in the mirror. The drinks bar also has a nespresso machine - a must have as a regular nespresso drinker. The smart TV is excellent for using the internet and streaming video etc. The Guerlain Spa and pool area is the lap of luxury so do treat yourself to a visit. The Lang bar serves up excellent cocktails in a art deco style and serves up great musical entertainment from soul to house music on the decks... A fabulous breakfast can be had at the hotels cafe Romanische which also stays open right through with the most amazing patisserie too. Just book it!

Room Tip: go up high for the views and facing the Tiergarten

I stayed in the junior exec. room which everything was new & shinny. The best part was it's extremely quiet at night which was great for people sensitive to noises. The hotel was minute walking distance to lots of restaurants and shopping area, and other hotels making it nice lodging for both business and vacation trips.

My only complaint was that I am a gold member but I didn't get free breakfast. Instead I got a drink coupon which I think it's a bit cheap for a loyal Hilton member.

Dear Guest

Thank you for choosing to stay with us. We are glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay.

We are also delighted that you have chosen Hilton Hotels whenever it was possible. So you are now one of our valuable HHonnors Gold Members.

We understand your discontentedness about the not included breakfast. But this procedure is common in all Waldorf Astoria Hotels. Thank you for your understanding.

Now, we wish you a pleasant, agreeable time where ever you are and should your travel bring you back this way, we hope that you will stay with us again.

Best regards

No doubts, that hotel belongs to the top league in Berlin. It's brand new and the spacious room we stayed in had a 180°'panoramic' view. Sleeping comfort was top class and the personnel was very polite, attentive and professional.

The location is however not (yet) great as it is surrounded by construction sites (which, of course, is not the hotel's fault) but very central in the 'old' part of Berlin, walking distance to the famous Kurfürstendamm and train station Bahnhof Zoo. People who however want to explore the 'new' Berlin are better off to stay near Potsdamer Platz or Gendarmenmarkt where you have plenty of hotel choices in the top category as well.

The only small critics I have relate to (i) the insufficient size of the spa area (was completely overcrowded when we went there on a Sunday afternoon for a relaxing experience but the pool was crowded and we had to use the rooftop area to lay down, which, however, was not properly arranged and one felt misplaced), (ii) the insufficient size of the main breakfast restaurant to accommodate the peak time (however, the coffee shop restaurant on the ground floor had great choices as well and therefore was not a big issue), and (iii) the rooftop bar which we felt was only set up like a temporary arrangement which is unsuitable for hotel of this standard (further, the main bar was closed which is also a big no-go!).

Overall, we felt comfortable at this stylish and modern hotel and can clearly recommend it if you don't plan to spend too much time in the 'new' vibrant part of Berlin as it's quite distant from it.

Room Tip: High-floor, corner deluxe rooms with 180° views are just fine.

Dear Guests

Thank you for your friendly and heartfelt review on Tripadvisor.

We are delighted to hear that you have enjoyed your stay and our team member were so politely, attentive and professional to your needs.

You are right if you say that the surrounding is often shaped by building sites. But already next month the well-known movie cinema "Zoopalast" will open its doors, 2 month later the BIKINI House. The restored bells from the Kaiser Wilhelm memorial church gave their first sound at the last weekend and it was a great event.

During your stay we had closed the "Lang Bar" and had instead open the Bar on our sun terrace. It was a desire from a lot of our guests to open the roof top. For the next year we will find a solution to satisfy all of our guests.

We hope to see you again soon and wish you a nice and successful time.

Loved this hotel. The location (across the street from the zoo bus/subway terminal, the Kaiser Wilhelm memorial church, the Europa Center, shopping along KuDamm) is unbeatable. The service is top notch (from the doormen to the front desk to room service), and the food is solid. As other reviewers have mentioned, the quality of the hotel is top notch. Where the Adlon area has few eateries to choose from, the Waldorf offers currywurst or fine dining right outside (or inside) of the hotel property. Where the Adlon is old school luxury and tested through time, the Waldorf is the new kid on the block coming from a prestigious family, and yet surprisingly refreshing . I hope this carries on with time.

Despite expecting a lot of this 5-star hotel, my experience still exceeded my expectations. It's a fantastic 5-star luxurious hotel.

Pros

-Amazing service. Very polite, professional. Someone took me all the way to the room.
-Very nice spa area.
-The guest room is amazing. I was in a junior suite - very spacious. There are TVs connected to apple hard drives.
-Good views.
-The top floor library/lounge offers nice view of Berlin.
-Coffee machine.

Cons
-Expensive wifi

We stayed for a night at this Hotel and loved it. Facing the Zoologischer Garten Rail Station, and so perhaps not in the most beautiful immediate vicinity, the Hotel is ideally positioned for easy connections across the City. It is also adjacent to one of the shopping districts and to a great selection of bars, restaurants and so on.

The Waldorf Astoria opened in January this year and so everything is relatively new. We were allocated a beautiful and spacious corner room which was light and very stylishly furnished. We particularly enjoyed the huge walk-in shower, the complimentary Nespresso coffee machine and the comfortable bed and linens. We also appreciated the handwritten welcome note and sweet tray delivered to our room in recognition of our Diamond Hhonors membership.

Without exception staff were professional and helpful and we felt very well cared for throughout our stay. The degree of personal attention and the genuine hospitality that we experienced here really impressed us and we enjoyed cocktails in the Hotel bar and our swim in the pool too.

Others have commented on the high prices at the WA Berlin and it's true that this is not a cheap option with a full breakfast coming in at Eur36 per guest for example but, at least at the time we stayed, we felt that the room rate was very fair and compared favourably with lesser Hilton properties in the City that we had stayed at too.

When check-out time came we were genuinely sad to leave this comfortable Hotel and can't wait for our next visit. Many thanks to all the team for a great stay.
