We chose the Circus Apartments based upon Trip Advisor's Rating and the reviews of others....My wife and I arrived after an eleven-hour flight to......paradise !!!! The courteous staff emailed us prior to our arrival, checking to see if we wanted any items stocked for our apartment, and if we desired transportation arrangements for us from the airport to the Circus....We did, and all was arranged perfectly !!! What warm and personable customer service !!! We were greeted by Lukas who patiently took time to explain all that there was to offer and then he took us to our apartment......A beautiful, crisp & clean unit with incredibly high-quality fixtures & features. I have traveled throuought the world and have never been so impressed by the level of Customer Service combined with the quality of the living space !!!! The Cafe and its incredible staff (Saskia & the "two Julias") went out of their way to ensure that we were enjoying our experience in Berlin Mitte. When Lukas was off-duty at the front, then it was Johann with his incredible knowledge of the city and surrounding areas who was there to make sure our stay was just what we desired. We feel like we have discovered a "Treasure" in the Circus Apartments and can't wait to return to the "family" we left at The Circus !!!

The experience of a good hotel with the freedom of a full apartment. Staff were extremely helpful with parking, underground passes & local amenities. Great location & perfect experience. For a family of four this was reasonably priced & a really lovely way to see Berlin.

I spent four nights in an apartment and one night in a single hostel room in July 2012. The apartments were basically a queen size bed with a small table in an eating area and a kitchen. They were very bright and clean. The service and the front desk was fantastic. They were very helpful with tourist information and very knowledgable. With a tram stop right out their front door, the location was perfect for getting around the city. I wouldn't stay anywhere else in Berlin.

Note: I inadvertently posted this review under the Circus Hotel (Home Away from Home). This review is for the Circus Apartments at Choriner Strasse 84, Berlin.

Why stay in a hotel when you can have a reasonably-priced, well-located, large comfortable apartment with concierge services and a friendly cafe downstairs? At the Circus Apartments, you live on a quiet residential area of Berlin just steps away from public transportation, stores, and restaurants. For me, when you start feeling like a local after a few days, a trip is successful and the Circus Apartments make that happen.

German: platz=square; strasse=street; bahnhof=train station; u-bahn=subway; s-bahn=above-ground train; danke=thank you; tschuss or auf wiedersehn=good bye; guten morgen=good morning; guten tag=good day; guten abend=good evening

I loved our stay in our one bedroom Circus Apartment (2 person apt) for 8 days July 8-15, 2012. The price was reasonable and included tax (there is a discount for staying >7 days). We asked for a fan when we arrived and opened up all the windows in the unit in the evening and early morning to take advantage of the ample cross ventilation; the unit's temperature was comfortable. It was a corner unit so the living room was filled with natural light overlooking an interior courtyard surrounded by other apartment units. You can lower the blinds for privacy. Hairdryer, safe, and kitchen with dishes, pots, etc. were provided. Buy paper towels & kleenex, at the grocery store. The unit was clean, new, and in a very well-located, safe area: 7 minute walk to Rosenthaler Strasse, 4-5 blocks to Eberswalder, 15 minutes to Hackescher Markt subway (U-bahn) stations. There is a fruit stand/convenience store 1 block away on the corner, a full-service grocery store 2 blocks, an organic grocery store 5 blocks, 5 blocks to Kollwitzstrasse (a tree-lined street filled with boutiques and good restaurants), 2 banks with ATMs (our ATM card didn't work at the first one), post office, 2 gelaterias, and restaurants are located within steps of Rosenthaler Strasse., 30 minute walk to Brandenburg Gate, 20 minute walk to Museum Insel & tv tower/Alexanderplatz (major subway connector & electronics store Saturn & dept stores). We took public transportation but also walked 3-4 miles/day and didn't gain any weight. Laundry facilities, free laundry soap, & free wireless internet are provided. TV stations are in English, French, German, & Spanish, but the English-speaking stations are generally news-related. The cheese cake in the cafe downstairs is delicious! Good croissants. The concierge (major kudos to Johann for providing superb customer service) & cafe staff were superb and friendly; they even patiently allowed me to practice my survival German with them. The concierges were available from 7:00am to 11:00pm in the cafe. If you need a wake-up call before 7:00am, have them arrange to have the Circus Hotel call you. If you need to depart prior to 7:00am, check out the evening before and make arrangements to leave your key. There is a hefty charge for lost apartment keys. Note: the Circus Apartments, Hostel, and Hotel are closely related. We were able to borrow an adapter from the Circus Hotel & have a business document scanned at the Circus Hostel. At the Circus Apartments, the concierge faxed a document for us and allowed my husband to use a vacant apartment with faster internet to conduct a web-meeting. Superb service!

Travel tips:
Don't forget to call your credit & debit card companies before you leave home and have a 4-digit pin for ATM machines.
There are >160 museums in Berlin. We didn't run out of things to do!
Best cakes for afternoon tea: Anna Blume on Kollwitzstrasse 83 on corner of Sredzkistrasse about 15 min. walk from Circus Apartments (on a nice day, grab a seat outside underneath the trees). Closest U-bahn Eberswalder (about 4 blocks). Go to the street market, Markt am Kollwitzplatz, on Saturday (gourmet food and hand-crafted clothing). Kollwitzstrasse is a great place to stroll. Great neighborhood. Other restaurants also on Kollwitzstrasse or on Kollwitzplatz (the square): Vietnamese, Indian, Spanish tapas, French, pastry store.
Best first day activity: Fat Tire Bike Tour All-In-One-Day Bike Tour (under the tv tower at Alexanderplatz-we walked there in 20 minutes from the apartment). Great for an overview of the city. We did it on a Sunday when many stores are closed and car traffic is not bad. We were the only ones wearing bike helmets in our group (we brought ours from home as we were biking 2 days). Flat bike ride.
Best deal for public transportation-buy the 7-day ticket for area A (covers buses, trams, U-bahn, S-bahn) for 26 euros (we bought it at the office in Alexanderplatz) and then added a supplement the next day for area C to cover Potsdam. Note: you need to validate your ticket in a box (can't remember if it's red or yellow box) on the platform right before you start your first trip. The transportation system is on the honor system. However, there were inspectors checking tickets. 40Euros if you don't have a ticket.
Best day trip: Bike riding on our own in Potsdam. Take S-bahn 7 (40 minutes) to the end of the line . Rent bikes from Potsdam per Pedales (around 10 euros per day) located at Potsdam Hauptbahnhof (main train station-same level as tracks). Ask for the audioguide map (we didn't rent the audioguide) and follow the red route on the map starting along the river. Make sure to stop at Cecilienhof for pictures (site of Potsdam Conference), and a few minutes further on the lake for lunch at the Meirerei Brewery & Gasthaus. Relatively flat bike ride.
Best Museums: Note: many museums are closed on Mondays. Pergamon (antiquities), Museum at Checkpoint Charlie (the area is touristy, but the museum is very interesting; it outlines the wall history and escapes), museum at the Memorial to Murdered Jews by the Brandenburg Gate (free), Deutsches Historisches Museum by Museum Island..
Visit to the Reichstag, German Parliament Building with a walk to the dome (has a view). You must go to Reichstag visitor website and reserve in advance (allow at least 5-7 days to get your reservation & date/time).
Taxi from Tegel Airport to Circus Apartments-25 euros. Make sure you give them the address or they might drop you at the Circus Hotel or Hostel which is a 7 minute walk away. You will check in at The Kitchen Cafe downstairs. From the concierge, get the jogging/walking map (outlines an easy walk to Hackescher Markt U-bahn) and the larger map with the transportation map on the back.
Nice Walk under the trees in town: Tiergarten. On a nice day eat lunch or grab a beer at the outdoor biergarten Cafe am Neuen See. The Fat Tire Bike Tour All-in-One tour stops here around 1:30 for lunch.
Shopping: KaDeWe (take U-bahn 1, U2, U3 to Wittenbergplatz; you can see KaDeWe from the U-bahn station; it's on the square), biggest or 2nd biggest department store in Europe. Go for lunch at the Buffet on the 6th floor. Check out the chocolates and gourmet food on 5th floor.
If you don't like beer, try the Berliner Weis Bier Rot (beer with cranberry juice)-very refreshing on a hot day. Or, a Radler ... beer with lemonade!

Gute Reise!

After reading trip advisor we wanted to book for our family of 4 at the circus hotel because it had such good reviews .But it was booked out and they suggested we try their new apartments which had opened last Dec which were just round the corner .So we did and we were totally blown away.our 2 teenage kids loved the large lounge roomand huge lounge to sprawl on .there was an ipad and free wifi , so nofight for our family ipad!
The balcony was small in depth but all the large glass doors and windows opened to let in the lovely summer breeze.the apartment was fully fitted with electric external sun blinds as well as internal curtains we had a 2 bedroom apartment one room was twin beds and one aqueen there were 2 bathrooms one with walkin shower and toilet and the other with a bath and hand shower and toilet.
The kitchen had. Small fridge ,dishwasher, stove, microwave and fully stocked with cutlery and crockery and dishwashing solutions and powder. The apartment is very eclectic and modern industrial in its decor
The only thing this apartment lacked to make it outstanding was a washing machine and drying rack ,we were not aware there was one in the basement .That is not made obvious in the apartment info
My husband tried a local laundrette with immaculate miele washing machines , but they do have long cycles and alovely elderly woman had to show my husband how to use the laundrette as it was not like usual english ones.
The aartment is part of a residential complex and others are still being built and fitted off .the apartment was fairly quiet , but can be a bit noisy at times as there are young chilren in the complex.
The staff are fantastic and contacted us prior to arriving to see if we wanted the fridge stocked or transport arranged from airport to the apartment

There is a fantastic little cafe underneath where youcan grab a snackor breakfast.
The apartments are in a greatpart oftown, close to the underground and many restaurants
If you go to the beautiful city of Berlin , do stay here they are lovely and a great break away from hotel rooms
